Hey guys. First time posting on the forums. Question! Which rune set would you say provides higher DPS or has the potential to provide higher DPS?

Rune of the Scholar or Rune of the Dragonhunter?
Dragonhunter provides more ferocity and gives 5 stacks of might per trap used. Big potential for short bursts of crazy dps.
Rune of the Scholar provides more power and a 10% damage boost when health > 90%.

Let me know what you guys think. This only applies to all modes of pve (Dungeons, Fractals, Raids). Not WvW or sPvP.

I usually use Scholar.

if i recall, wasnt staff from guardian nerfed to avoid the easy might stack????

That’s a good point. But how about the extra ferocity. Does it make a difference over the extra power you get assuming you’re critting pretty hard?

Rev is giving you the extra ferocity (150 boost) per their Shiro (Devastation) trait line.

not nearly enough to offset the 10% damage modifier you get from scholar

DH runes gives 5% crit damage over Scholar, at the cost of 75 Power. DH Rune’s might would become a non-factor in an optimized group, but might shine better than Scholar’s when solo or without capped Might.

I do train first 3 but is unavailable at pve.

Scholar wins hands down. Guards have a ton of blocks to maintain the scholar bonus, which is the best DPS increase in any reasonable pve situation. In most cases, you will be at 25 stacks of might so the bonus from dragon hunter runes is wasted. Finally at 100% crit chance, 11 ferocity is roughly equal to 10 power in terms of your increase to damage potential. So prioritize choosing power when the interchange is 1 to 1.

Do you mean Dragonhunter the Elite Spec or the Rune? Because the post is about the rune, but you seem to talk about the Elite Spec.

Anyway, you only need 30 HP to unlock DH the elite spec. At that point you can take the new spec and use the new weapon, but you will have nothing unlocked (trait or skill). As you get more HP and unlock more stuff you can use them. But I wouldn’t suggest using DH until you have at least some of the trait unlocked.
