Experienced bunker people:

With soloQ coming up, I plan to play a mid-point bunker.

I’d like a build that is REALLY hard to kill, that does not require a huge amount of tricky timing and tricky sequences (since I am new to this. Maybe later I can get fancy).

I don’t care about offense at all. I just want to hold the point as long as possible, and support allies on the side as well.

Retaliation sounds fun, too, with all the DPS glass cannons out there.

with pug? umm… no thanks…
I have my bunker guardian build (will show you latter, still setting it on gw2build).
Play with my guild team, my team have 80% chance to win.
With Pug ? no.
because what? ;

My build could defend 2-3 enemy’s until my team show up and help for DPS…
the problem is, when I play with pug, there is no anyone will be interested help me at mid point, when they see my HP bar drain so quickly…
they just focus to kill someone outside the point node for individual score.

thats why I hate tourney with pug…

Well, I tried a bit today, and a necro just burned me down 1v1, even though I had two kinds of condition removals going every 10 seconds. I guess I could not remove the most recently applied conditions, allowing the underlying, base bleed storm to take me out.

man we dont use pasive remove conditions each 10s we use shout remove conditions (soldier runes and 30 points to honor with “pure of voice”) :P

Even with passive + active removal, I often see people managing to burst and kill me in like 1 second.

this is the build azshene from tp runs afaik, im getting along with it pretty well. you cant remove all conditions but ah+symbols+high regen uptime gives you a nice hps in teamfights and you ahve a lot of supportive stuff.

well pretty much all guardian builds rely on timing your shelter, renewed focus, shield of wrath and so on well but youll get better at it by the time

There isn’t any build which is really hard to kill that doesn’t involve timing skills and dodging.

But the typical builds are the 0/0/10/30/30 midpoint control bunker (soldier runes, energy sigils, clerics/clerics) or the 0/5/30/30/5 AH build (same gear).

Personally if you are going to pug it up/soloQ and you insist on bunkering down, then i’d use the control bunker meta. The AH build is too reliant on your team mates hanging around with you.

In terms of condi clearing well with 0/0/10/30/30 you remove two conditions with each shout (of which you will have 2-3 on your utility bar) via soldiers with Pure of Voice, a 10 sec purge via Purity and a tripple clear from Absolute Resolution.

I would rather say, there is no build that doesn’t go down if two or three good players are on you. You can bubble yourself for about 20s and then u die if the help doesn’t arrive.
If you hold yourself longer than that your enemys are most likely pure point-holders too or don’t know what they are doing…..~~

Don’t forget the stab from Courage and the virtue refresh via Renewed Focus. You really shouldn’t be having problems with condi builds unless there are multiple people running those builds on you at the same time.

Edit: forgot to mention that you can bring GS and use 2 and 5 to whirl inside a light field. Even more condi cleanse.

I personally use condition removal on crit for both weapons along with the healing signet and the trait. I don’t use any condition removal on shout and I do just fine….

Bunker guardian doesn’t do too well in solo queue. Bunker guardian can last a while, but it can’t kill anything and will eventually lose. It’s set up to hold out until help arrives and then give support to allies. However, you rarely get help quickly in solo queue and just die from attrition. It’s usually better to run a dueling build or OP spirit ranger.

Hi I’ve a bit of experience bunkering…
Before you heed any of my advice helpful or not, check out Silven’s build and guides which you can access by searching.
The classic control bunker runs 0/0/10/30/30 with following traits
Purity, Superior Aria, Twohanded Mastery/Resolute Healer/Writ of the Merciful, Pure of Voice, Consecrated Grounds/Master of Consecrations, Absolute Resolution, Indomitable Courage.
You use Cleric amulet with Knights jewel for the Vit and little Prec. Soldiers runes go well with Pure of Voice Trait.
You use Hammer and Scepter Shield. Scepter can be switched for Mace or Sword, and Hammer for Staff. Each weapon has unique control/defense aspects that you will build experience and feel for. We are all willing to give tips on combos and clutch skill use but not point of thread.
You want to fit traits around the weapons you use. Hammer and Staff benefit from 2h Mastery, Writ of the Merciful allows you to use Mace and Staff symbols to heal yourself. If you slot Resolute Healer, you can reliably secure a resurrection.
You may even opt to go 0/0/20/30/20 with Shield CD and forego Indomitable Courage. You get more toughness but lose a stability AoE. Your choice.

You will get 16.7k health and 2.8k armour. Guardians share the lowest health tier with Elementalists, Thief. They rely on dodge roll healing, VoR, And correctly timed CC to negate a lot of damage that would otherwise land. You also have Shelter block, and Renewed Focus that can nullify bursts but you must know your enemy. Your role is to stall, heal, buff, res, stability/aegis stomp, and pressure enemy best you can.
You will always run 2 shouts and the third utility can be switched according to opposite team’s setup. Wall of Reflection for Engineers, Sanctuary for teamfight res, Purging Flames for condi heavy teams, Judge’s Intervention for Kyhlo…. Etc.

Sadly there is no build for you to sit there and tank. To bunker is to actively and defensively counter your enemy. Mace Focus and Staff grant the most Passive healing, but also relies on using Block in a timely fashion.
Guard is also not the best 1v1 bunker. If you leave him alone, he will eventually die. As said in an above post, Guardians can bunk, but team support comes first and is also its greatest feature, stopping stomps, securing resses, giving boons and condi cleanses. They are the backbone and must actively be helpful.
