Shattered Aegis Change
This trait is just terrible gamedesign. When you think about stuff like that you need to look at how fun it is to play with it and, more importantly, how fun it is to play against it. If you can’t take it off you have to wait it out but the duration on some skills is really long. In addition the ‘+20% dmg while under aegis’ trait makes waiting it out even less viable.
Just triggering it means simply no counterplay. You could try to shoot something and dodge before it hits but thats just stupid.
Edit: I’m so embarrassed… It says to nearby foes, I totally misread that.

I feel like the communal defenses trait bumped down to masters + virtues should offer plenty of sources of aegis for any guardian.
The new traitline will move Shattered Aegis from minor to grandmaster and to compensate the damage will be doubled. I don’t think the damage buff is enough to compensate the change as you can count on one hand the number of ways we can apply aegis and most of them are on a fairly lengthy cooldown. Unless the power ratio is getting buffed to some insane number, no one will ever takes this outside of some super niche World Boss builds.
They said with a low lower build the aegis will crit for 1000. I suspect the damage will be a bit higher with full zerks and damage modifiers. I suspect it’ll be between 1200 and 1500 damage if the stars align.
I’ve used shattered ageis alot and it’s not uncommon to place aegis on 3 other people near you. That gives a burst potential of 3600 which isn’t bad. I’ve always been a fan of Shattered Aegis so i’m a bit bias :P
Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
the real problem of shatter aegis is the super short range (240)
if it was say a 450~600 ranged attack, usefulness ,for wvw at least, could increase greatly
Eh personally I wish they would make it daze or slow anyone who breaks an AEGIS you applied.
The guardian is horribly lacking when it comes to CC & needs all the help it can get in that department.
Hmm given that Communal Defenses is now more accessible, I wonder if it will still proc dozens of shattered aegis hits.
This could be nasty in wvw zergs or pve events.

If i recall that makes u give aegis(triggers when atack is blocked by aegis ) to allies when u burn yours aegis and not any other block skill besides the f3 and retreat i dont recall we have another Aegis skill.
Does someone using this can confirm?
Besides valor on adept assumes you always play a meditation guard or focus only.
(edit)other way to gain aegis would be with protective reviver on honor traits

Yes, with the old numbers, I’ve procced over 167 counts of shattered aegis (I didn’t get them all, they filled up my entire combat log) on Teq, dealing somewhere in the ballpark of 100k. With increased base damage and scaling, this could be even nastier when the situation arises. And that’s the whole point of the trait, to get into those situations and make the most of it.

Yes, Communal Defenses will apply Aegis to everyone close to you when you lose your Aegis ( and it won’t re-apply to yourself ). All the people that it does apply to will (currently) proc both Shattered Aegis and Pure of Heart when they then lose their Aegis.
You can also get Aegis from Protective Reviver, Valorous Defense ( when health goes below 50% ) and Pure of Voice ( when cleansing burn )

Communal Defenses provides aegis to allies when you block an attack through any means (Aegis, Mace 3, Shelter, etc). Of course, the Aegis traits only proc from aegis.
If Aegis is given to shield skills (with traits or not), I can see shield becoming very lovely with this trait.
It may be more worthwhile to provide an aoe damage on block rather than on aegis removal. It’s something to toy around with as numbers would need to be adjusted for that.

YES, that would be awesome to daze someone when you block their attack.
+1
If only shield wasnt stuck with the godawful 180 toughness and gave aegis instead… Anyone else see the focus buff? protection on focus skill makes it downright better for shield for defense too now (before it was debatable defensewise, now there’s not the slightest doubt that focus > than shield in 99% of siuations 1% being knockback.)

Honestly, I’d argue the opposite. I’ve held the opinion that Unscathed Contender is the trait that’s counterintuitive, because it encourages the preserving of aegis when aegis is meant to be used to block an attack. Of course, UC is good for that initial burst, but as far as damage boosting traits go it’s not very reliable and shouldn’t really be counted as a boost to long term DPS.

I agree on long AoE heavy fights ( world bosses) UC is hard to maintain, but on shorter or more telegraphed fights UC can be maintained most of the time especially with retreat on a shorter cooldown .

That’s my point though. It’s really only good for initial bursts, and furthermore it counteracts the purpose of the aegis in the first place: to be USED to block an attack. It’s a counterintuitive trait, much like the current iteration of Berserker’s Power for warrior that is going to be scrapped in favor of a version that will reward the USE of burst skills.

One can argue that passive aegis itself is a counter intuitive mechanic since it allows you to face tank single hits that otherwise you’d have to time to avoid. So in a way UC makes you a better player? :p

Guys, guys. That wasn’t my point. My Point is that SA is not fun playing against. Upping the damage is unfun for the enemy and lowering it makes the trait useless.
Edit:
Oh, I have a funny one: They should rename the trait to ‘The Twitch Experience’ because the trait basically tells you to kill yourself
