Signet of Mercy - Weak
Don’t forget Elixir R Thrown
85s cooldown- possible to be traited down
Revives in pulses, so not instant, but also acts as a light field and removes conditions. Nice stuff.
It’s really the cast time that gets to me. People can go from downed to defeated very quickly.
Agreed… compared to others this skill is ridiculous…

What you’ve said is very true, it does seem like the Guardian counter part of this skill seems far weaker than the others.
My beef is with the cast time, the rest feels OK. As a Guardian my friends don’t die much anyway. But it’s hard to get an effective use out of it, you’re probably better off just CCing and reviving yourself.
I have used my Signet to revive a “defeated” player… so may have more utility than you are giving it.
I have also heard people claim that the elementalist skill can revive defeated players.
Personally, i can not confirm either claim.
With that in mind – I still think it’s way too weak.

I’ve tried signet of mercy on a defeated player and it didn’t work. Someone else tried it on me while I was defeated and nothing happened while he was right next to me.
Yeah, I’m wondering if it’s supposed to work on defeated players. That would certainly boost its power.
Glyph of Renewal flat out states it doesn’t work on defeated players:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Glyph_of_Renewal
The Signet of Mercy entry doesn’t say that. Buuuut, I’ve also never gotten it to work on a defeated player lol. It’s been awhile since I’ve tried though.
But what about improved healing? I mean I don’t know the actual effect, but…yeah, could actually be substantial, with a mace build or something. Or “Greatsword attacks heal you”, and if your symbols heal…etc. Again, no idea on the actual improved effect, I didn’t check or research, nor do I use this signet much unless I think it will matter.
It’s also really useful for PvP, can save a match.

+90 healing per the wiki, not bad but probably not worth the utility slot for that alone (if the on use effect is subpar).
I have tried using it a couple times, and found that it was just garbage. The cast time is too long, and the recharge is long as well. When other classes can do this 3-5 times better, I don’t see the point in using it.
I do feel that our job is to more prevent damage than heal it, but still, there are a lot of really horrible players in this game that die at least 10-15 times in some boss fights. Oh, how I hate PUGing.
Omniscient of Jade Quarry
The description is misleading as well… it doesn’t say anything about downed or defeated player…
It seems to need a bit more emphasis in the description, the cast time could use some looking at as well.

It is certainly the extreme cast time associated with this that is the problem. I tried it several times and honestly people get stomped before you can get this cast off. Now you might be able to start casting before someone goes down and have it work but that isn’t very useful and rarely do you not get interrupted anyway. Fix the cast time and I could see this being a useful signet in the right circumstance.
this skill should have been a Virtue.
I say it once I say it again after that.
MAKE THIS SKILL A VIRTUE not a skill to take up a limited skill bar and be so totally useless
Tbh I feel that as a Guardian out suppot power is a lot less the most other classes. On the pro side is that we can do a lot of long term prot and the Aoe heal from our elite can be awesome on the con is that a lot of classes can do similar things in theory na ppl just play them offensiv which leaves the Guardian room in groups for now but I don’t think a full supporty guardian could compete with a ele or mesmer that srsly want to support there group ( yeah we got Agies but we have like 2 ways to give it to ppl around us and it is both on a long cd). Also our dmg is even in a full dmg build just a joke. I am very sad what a-net made . Sure the guardian was to strong in the first bw but to make something like this of him in the final game… well either the qulity control and balance guys didn’t show up for there job or they did it very poorly becaus it is not like a guardian problem that the classes don’t play like they should not to mention all the bugs
+1
Please give this skill some love, both passive (+90 doesn’t worth a utility slot compared to other heal skill you can put there) and active (cooldown way too to long and effect not significant) effect are not worth it compared to other professions similar spell.
Could you please consider giving this skill some love ?

Hey now Virtue of Mercy would be a really interesting addition Knighthonor! I like it. Not sure how good it is balance-wise but I believe it certainly fits in with the Guardian ethos.

Weak powers on the guardian? That’s not possible, surely? Oh yes, now I remember … all of them are.
Svarty, don’t overreact. We have plenty of good, powerful abilities.
Signet of Mercy either needs a shorter cooldown, a stronger passive or a shorter cast-time. It can bring back defeated players, so the effect itself is pretty strong.
Virtue of Mercy would probably be overpowered without a ridiculously long cooldown.

You’re probably right. It just doesn’t feel like it when I’m being destroyed by a thief or a short bow auto-attack in 5 seconds*
*other classes can destroy me in 5 seconds.
If others professions can destroy you that fast, it’s likely to be an issue on your end. Guardians don’t die easy of you build/play them right.
Sometimes I am able to live a while, you know, when you do a Shield of Wrath as the warrior does his spinny “I win” move. If one aegis would block that one-button-press, multiple-hits attack then I’d last somewhat longer. But that’s not the only problem. Even if I have my very short duration multi-block power on, it doesn’t last long enough to prevent a short bow’s AUTO attack, since that lasts forever. What I’m saying is that my powers don’t appear to counter those of other classes effectively.
I mostly play WvW. Here is how I set up:
sword+focus for multi-block shield, teleport and blinds.
sceptre+torch for something ranged, immobilise and some AoE.
I run with these skills:
Signet of Resolve for big heal and condition remover.
Signet of Judgement for damage reducer.
“Retreat!” for extra aegis and speed.
“Save Yourselves” for speed & buffage.
Elite skill: They’re all crap.
Traits:
30 Radiance, II,VI, XI
20 Valour, II, V
15 Honour, II
(level 79).
HPs: 12,745
I’ve definitely used Signet of Mercy to revive a defeated—not downed—NPC, just to see if it’d work. Not sure if that’s an isolated incident or something that was later patched. I can try it on a player later.
I can not reproduce this with players, personally.

There seem to be quite a few variables. The player I used it on (in sPvP) was just defeated. When I used it later, it didn’t work, because by the time I finished the cast, the player had respawned.

It really depends on how you set your skills/traits up. Just looking at your utilities, you’re extremely susceptible to any form of cc, allowing you to be kited with ease. I personally run Smite Condition or Purging Flames, Judge’s Intervention, and Contemplation of Purity.
For weapons, I run a greatsword, and sword/focus or sword/torch. It all depends on what I think i’m going to need. With these weapons and your traits, you should have 4 blinds, a 4 block shield, and 3 gap closers. In my opinion, this is usually enough mobility to chase down most people.
Lastly, it still boils down to what role you’re trying to fill in WvW. I for one, am built to dive right in there with the Warriors and Thieves and provide melee support in the form of combo fields/finishers.

Oh I can get near them ok. Then they kill me.
What[profession] kills you, exactly?
What[profession] kills you, exactly?
All of them.
Seeing as you’re not 80 yet, I have noticed that stat scaling becomes much worse the close you are to 80. Once you hit 80, getting a mixed set of rare Knight’s and Valkyrie armour should raise your survivability significantly. Prior to 80, I noticed that I had around 11-12k health. After getting my initial set of rare 80 gear, I noticed that I had 16k health, much more toughness, and more power than what WvW scaling offered.
Have you tried building your guardian in sPvP? Everybody has access to the same gear, so there shouldn’t be any issues when it comes to the difference in stats.
For the most part, it’s learning what other classes can do, looking for tells of high damage skills(usually have some sort of signature animation), and timing your mitigation skills properly. That alone will help more than stacking stats/gear. Not sure what else to say, but I hope this helps ><
Thanks.
