Soldier armor vs cleric armor
Why no doubt about cleric trinkets and what are you gonna do with your guardian?

well actually it could go either way. I feel I’ll need some healing points for my guard. I want to make him a pve/wvw tanky-ish guy who can still deal decent dmg.
In open world pve clerics are a totall waste of space and just slows down killing stuff. I havent found any open world content the requires a single piece of healing power in gear. Dps rocks.
In dungeons they serve a purpose but imo if you want to tank damage its toughness first, crit rating, at least 40-45%, second and then you finetune so your dodge roll heals the amount you feel comfortable with.
Imo 50% crit and 50% crit damage is minimum for moving around in open world.
As i always say, knights armor are a match made in heaven for guardians. If you want to do dps and tank with your guardian knights as a base rule imo. I would start there and then evolve either into more dps in berserkers or into more healing in clerics.
Btw there are trinkets that gives vitality, precision and heal power, those might be something for you.
im biased but i think having clerics in pve is just reducing performance but if you like the healer concept by all means stack it and dodge heal the team for 2k.
EDIT:
Dont by soldiers, if you want to heal there are pre/vit/healpower that you can buy for karma and iof you want dps go for knights or berserkers.
Imo soldiers are possibly the second worst gear for a guardian imo.
I’ve tried both soldiers and clerics for guardians.
Overall, with clerics you really don’t need to worry about ever dying in AC, as long as you have protection up (use a hammer) you can get swarmed by those small gravelings and still see your health not dropping. Nothing down there except the instajib mobs will be a threat to you, so most of the kiting encounters you can instead tank and spank.
On the other hand, with soldiers, you’ll hit a bit harder, and your retaliation will do more damage, but you’ll have to dodge more as you rely on buffer tanking and a guardian doesn’t have much buffer.
I want it to make sense right away, then another sense later. Murkiness =/= quality "

I’m partial to Cleric’s.

Works in dungeons about as well as you could want it to.
Only get Cleric’s armor if you’re primarily going to be a “tank” Guardian and you’re using the Mace as your primary weapon. With the mace every +100 healing is literally an extra +100 health per second when you factor in the Mace Regen, AH, and Writ.
With the Greatsword +healing is not that good because most of your healing comes from AH which doesn’t scale that well with +healing.
Lorella Windrunner – 80 Thief
Shayera Nightfall – 80 Mesmer
Also don’t feel compelled to get a full set in any one type of armour .
It’s perfectly valid to mix and match sets to get a good balance of stats – eg Knights, Valkyrie and Berserker or PVT Karma etc. (although it can be expensive if you don’t get the balance right the first time)

The regen from mace and autoattack make up only a small amount of your total healing with cleric’s gear.
PVT gear is pretty much crap in PvE. You’re better off with either Knights (the best choice by far) or Cleric’s (2nd best choice) for “tanking”. If you want to go pure support, Magi armor (PVH) is better than Cleric’s because the precision proc’s EM/Vigor while Vitality is better protection against burst, and you aren’t “tanking”. If you want to do damage, go Berserker’s.
Also depends on what you plan on spending most of your time doing. Knights is always a safe choice, but I went with the power/vit/toughness karma gear for WvW. The extra durability helps quite a bit there.
To be fair though, I pretty much only WvW. So I’m sure there are better choices if you’re doing things like dungeons and such.
