Q:
Solving mobility for WvW roaming?
A:
You may find this interesting: Guardian Mobility Table ( you can ignore the “current system” row because it’s no longer in the game )
A meditation sword/gs guard is pretty quick around the battle field. You’ll never be as quick as a GS warrior (what profession is though?) and can be extremely slow if you find yourself with no ambient creatures/enemies to target for teleport. Traveler and Speed runes can help a great deal if you can make them gel with your build.
A support oriented guardian has to rely on the boon duration stats and staff to get maximum swiftness uptime.
It should take around 80% boon duration to get 100% swiftness uptime from the staff, provided you receive 2 ticks per cast. You can get away with lower if you suppliment it with shouts ( “retreat!”, “save yourselves!” )

Sword and GS, JI, and traveler runes or speed
What Carpboy said. No, EXACTLY what he said.
Yea, I run rune of speed in WvW on my guard now. Works well if you ask me.

Thanks for the replies, everyone!
i have a set with traveler’s rune and another one with runes of speed, i can’t stand walking at normal speed even in sPVP.

Just your personal views up there.
For me, if i’m in combat, i’m mobile enough with meditations/leap/teleports to not let my target get away.
So I would more than gladly sacrifice some O-O-C mobility for actual strength in a fight. Then again, if you run with a WvW zerg(or simply run Retreat!), the problem solves itself.
As for that, I don’t like runes of traveler. They make swiftness look near useless, meanwhile giving boon duration so it lasts… for longer… you get my point, right?
I’d rather get something that rocks the actual combat, and such would be Lyssa, Soldier’s, and some other honorable mentions(+45% boon duration from runes maybe?)
And I feel like a boss10 feet tall norn when it comes to fighting other players. So egocentric, that being
1 versus 2 doesn’t even sound unfair.

As stated above in combat I am good with sword and GS, and meditation skill. When running around it sucks a little bit specially when I am roaming with other people that have speed signets or runes, but I just got used to it… I dont want to sacrifice my runes for more speed right now, but if one day I decide to waste some gold definitely would go for travellers runes.

You dont’ need strength when you’re running zerker.
You need Vitality & Speed.

Staying mobile in combat is the #1 way of increasing your sustainability as a guardian.
Slapping some Soldier runes on your armor pales in comparison.

Traveller runes are the better choice if you HAVE to have passive speed. Plus they give +15% boon duration which is a bonus if you run anything in virtues. Not +75%, but still… not bad at all.
Honestly it’s just a personal pet peeve of my own that other players may share. Yes we are inherently slow because the typical roam builds don’t use Retreat or even SY if you run meds especially. When it comes down to it +25% speed just makes it “easier” to get around. Nothing more, nothing less.
If you’re in a zerg, you’ll pretty much get 100% swiftness from allies around you. If you’re roaming, then runes of the traveler are the way to go.
Warriors get 100% swiftness too? Ugh…
yea traveler’s is my standard runeset now.
When the change to crit damage comes I feel like rune of speed will be better. For guards the burning duration doesn’t really matter. The boon duration looks good if you have long base durations after that it’s the crit damage and the movement speed.
Runes of speed probably provide you with better survivability then 30 toughness and 30 vitality. 30 power and 30 precision the precision probably gave you 1 crit chance and the power is less then 2 ruby orbs. You can make a strong case for the boon duration but that is really negligible unless you are specced into virtues anyway.
I have 5 of my 6 characters with runes of the traveler because right now crit damage on it is still ok but if it is made worse then I’ll probably move them all to speed. Especially if they do rune of speed like they gave the example of rune of strength +45% swiftness duration. Will make the on hit proc last 43.5 seconds if it doesn’t change that’s with no other boon duration investment.

Yes, if they use warhorn.
Want 100% swiftness?
Staff + “Retreat!” + “Save Yourselves!”
I have 2 sets, i have a roaming set i run runes of speed with, then just spam leap of faith for the boost.
when it comes to zerging, i said kitten it and rely on group buffs and stacking staff swiftness. Warrior commanders that spam GS skills to move faster are annoying because no one (ok maybe RtL ele, or a thief) can keep up. I run full bunker/support so if they want to leave me behind i will gladly revive them when i get there.
