Some help for an inexperienced Guardian
Try and lower your crit rate to between 45% and 50%, anything over is kind of useless until you hit around 70% (Which isn’t going to happen on any useful guardian).
My only absolute: Drop Strength in Numbers, put Honorable Shield in its place and add either AH or Monk’s Focus. That extra 70 toughness is worth nothing compared to the heals you’ll receive from either of AH or MF. MF at base heals for around 1.5k on mediation use and AH will heal you for 70-72 per boon applied. Use them according to what you put in your slots.
At that, it looks solid.
Someone call me out if you think I’m wrong.
Thanks, I was wondering about switching to mf and using the 3 meditation skills. I’ll try to up vit or toughness and lower the crit rate. Thanks for your input.
Just to give you some other builds. These are what I use.
This is what I’m using at the moment for ‘alone’ type of deals. I tend to run off looking for fights. You get 2k heals per mediation. One recharges every 16 seconds, giving you an emergency button.
Dying with this build is questionably harder than others. Seeing you have an immediate 14k health available to you.
Should have stated my slot skills: Signet of Resolve, Judges Intervention, Smite Condition, Contemplation of Purity.
Slight changes take me to this. I use this for zerg fights, etc. Staff would be my main weapon, GS is for self defense.
Dying while using this build is something that happens; you’re there to apply boons and be annoying; being annoying gets you killed.
Skills: Signet of Resolve, Signet of Judgement, Stand your ground, Save yourselves.

Both builds have two stun breakers, etc. etc.
The first build is a selfish Tank/DPS build. The second is a support Tank/DPS.

Thanks for the suggestions!
I tinkered a bit with my build and this is what I came up with.
I managed to lower my crit rate (47) raise my crit damage (67) slightly raise my hp but lowered my armor.
I use Shelter, Judges Intervention, Smite Condition, and Save Yourselves but I can switch to Contemplation of Purity if I need to.
It doesn’t seem like many Guardians use the weapon sets that I’m using. Are they just really bad for WvW and sPvP?
I’m generally trying to make a sword/focus, mace/shield build right now but it’s going slow. I know what I want, but I don’t really want to sit down and get the money/tokens/??? to go make it. But I’m getting there.
The general issue with one handed weapons is this: They do less damage and are, in my opinion, somewhat awkward to use. They are also somewhat lacking in crowd control, which two handed weapons are not (GS, Hammer, Staff all have crowd control while only the scepter and the shield have crowd control: A push back and an immobilize). The scepter is also somewhat buggy with its auto attack, making it slightly frustrating to use.
Mace and shield from what I’ve heard and seen is generally to be used with pure tanky builds that use clerics as the weapon itself has plenty of ways to heal you can your team mates.
That’s a lot better. Don’t worry about losing armor. A hundred or so down isn’t going to show you much different in damage. As long as you have between 2800 and 3000, you should be just fine.
And by all means, check out all the builds that are around this forums when you have the time. A lot of them are pretty darn amazing. There’s pure DPS builds that could knock just about anyone on their bum but have no healing past Signet/Shelter/theotherone. There’s the Healway which is pretty darn neat. Boon duration, etc. etc.
I’ve been gaming along time but with games that use tank, mage, and healer trinity.
I’m in my 50s so reaction times are slowing down a bit.
I love this game but it can be a little hectic trying to figure everything out, I’m trying to keep it as simple as possible while still being a viable player.
Hopefully I’ll find something that’ll work for me.
Thanks again for all your help.
Well I think Guardian is pretty simple to play in PvE (including dungeon runs, except WvW and Fractal). I basically use GS and Hammer for my general needs – GS3, GS2, GS4, switch, Hammer2, Hammer1, then rinse and repeat. Together with Shouts (I use Hold the Line, Save yourselves and Stand Your Ground in dungeon runs, and the Retreat for the speed buff other times) and your virtuous, you are set!
