I searched on ‘speed’, and nothing came up.

I was curious as to what a Guardians speed options are, besides ‘Retreat!’? Any other actives or passives? How do Guardians get around, as it were?

Staff 3, save yourselves and retreat used in proper rotation can give you almost permaswiftness

If you spec increase boon duration, save yourselves and retreat together would give you permaswiftness. This way you can lose the staff and use what ever weapon you want.

At 60% boon duration, staff #3 alone can give you permaswiftness.

superior rune of air + save yourselvess + retreat + 20 points in virtues = 49sec of swiftness every 48 secs (or less if you us shelter as healing skill)

this is the best way to get perma swiftness because allow you to choose all the rest and hasn’t a negative impact on your equip.

Staff swiftness isn’t a good choise because it’s bugged and if you still are under the swiftness effect you get only 1 sec which is useless so basically you can use it in your rotation only 1 time and with a lot of difficults even if the full rotation is exactly 48 sec of switfness every 48 sec.
Another simply way is to use food with more boon duration (20%) or put on water runes especially if you are playing a boonway or healing build.
Another again is to put on 2x rune of pack + 2x rune of air + 2x rune of water so you get a base 55% swiftness duration and you aren’t forced to put points in virtues.

Runes of the pack + 10 pts in virtues allow myself perma swiftness with staff #3, retreat and save yourselves. I ditch retreat in wvw however as its a useless skill there anyway.

retreat, instead, is a really good skill in wvw.
That’s why:
1) you get 20 sec (base) of swiftness and we havent much ways to get swiftness unless to force our personal build in aforementioned ways.
2) provides you aegis = 1 block
3) provides you and to your party 2 boons = 150hp per persone near you if using AH build
4) provides you a block = un might stack when you block = heal (if AH build)

anyway you can get perma swiftness with staff and rune of pack but you have to wait 1.5 sec before to start rotation again with staff and there are a lot of complications (depending on situation).

The problem with this in WvW should be obvious to most people. The only time you would be useful with this build is in a zerg, or playing defense. If you are in defense the movement isn’t that important. On the defense if you need the movement speed you were in a bad position to start with. If you are in a zerg there are simply better options available so that your group will have perma swiftness anyway.

Solo play is really when perma swiftness would be the most useful, and that’s when those builds are at their most useless.

To the OP I run a GS Sw/fc build. I compensate for it by using my teleports/sword 2 on things ahead of me to gain distance. Those little white creatures can get you to them pretty quickly. Select one in the distance, sword 2 switch gs leap etc. If they removed the target requirement on sw2 it would be much better for us to get around.

infact i dont suggest to use a perma swiftness based build in wvw especially because you dont really need to get “permanent” swiftness because if you are in a zerg there are about 20 other people which give you swiftness and if you are solo roaming you can get enough swiftness from retreat + save yourselvess (30sec min, 37.5sec in my build with rune of pack).
I use GS-Sw/fc build too (AH) and i really don’t need more swiftness

12.8 swiftness duration, 12 second recharge time with two hand mastery… granted he missed the point about needing THM… but yeah, corrrect.

You forgot about the up to 1s of swiftness you don’t have while waiting for the pulse. Not to mention it’s completely artificial because you need to time it so you not only run over the symbol right when your swiftness runs out but you don’t accidentally run completely through it without getting a pulse.

So no, staff doesn’t give you permanent swiftness even if you have 50000000000% boon duration.

Its close enough to be able to call it “permaswiftness”. Stop trying to argue for the sake of arguing. Pretty much just getting into semantics there.

And I have no problem timing it to avoid the staff bug.

If you lay it down correctly, you don’t have to worry about that considering it pulses the second you put it down. sounds like a L2P issue with laying down the symbol.
