Spirit Weapon Disscusion Thread
1. AoE dmg reduction in PvE or WvsW too.
2. Take off the knockback from Hammers AA (should be the active skill)
3. Merge traits
4. They shouldn´t get destroyed by activasion baseline. (3 traits or so are rly enough, at the moment we have more spread over 3 traitlines)
5. Bow should do some dmg and a little bit healing (like Ele staff Water AA or Frostbow
The biggest issue ist.
U have to trait alot to make them work. By doing this u´re losing alot of personal DPS and Support (Traits and utilityskills).
Your DPS will be lower by traiting them, the spiritsword is for DPS only…so it´s completly useless.
Just for example.
Some Traits are pretty weak, “Spirit weapons cause burning” for example. Guards have so much possibility to burn some1. And Burning (alone) is weak in PvE. And in PvP/WvsW…we can make them burn all the time without this trait.
As long spiritweapons don´t cause “spirit/foefire” this trait will be useless.
Sounds interesting. What do the other guys think about it. Should be only changed the traits and add some new things to the weapons or should be the weapons as its own be reworked?
I mean it also could be good when they rework it like a pet from ranger or mecromancer or not?
What u guys think about it?

Spirit weapons are one of those things you just don’t talk about here. Anet doesn’t talk about them, we don’t talk about them. They don’t exist.
Windows 10
1) Merge traits / rework.
2) Take reduced damage from AoE.
3) When activating the sword, it should fly to your current target and then do damage instead of at it’s current location.
4) Bow active needs to be targeted AoE.
They can actually use a general rework as most of them are trash outside of the shield in PvE; hammer is passable due to the CC it brings.
But i want to talk about it in the hope something will change. And when not dreaming is also OK.
I’ve noticed anything in this game that is related to an AI is at least half stupid.
Maybe they should just dumb it down. Every spirit weapon stays near you, and will strike your vicinity periodically. The bow would of course shoot something afar.

Thats why i thought that they eventually make it like the summoned weapons oft the elementalist.
I created one of the greatest build ever that was centered around spirit weapons. Here are the two examples of its gameplay, you can clearly see the viability of this build as well as its efficiency.

Shame.
I don’t think they’ll change the spirit weapons. Everyone agree that they are very weak, has been done a lot of threads, but yet, not a single word about this from ANET. This is sad.
But its a little sad. I wish all skills where usefull.
The main thing I want for Spirit Weapons is some trait condensing.
It takes far too many traits that are far too spread out in different trait lines to “max” them. There should be 3 traits max, distributed in no more than 2 different trait lines. One trait for spirit duration / cooldown, one for burn on hit, and one for damage. Or perhaps one for Duration, one for Cooldown, and one for Burn + Damage increase. Either way.
Eternal Spirit is dumb. Requiring a trait to use the special ability of your summon without KILLING IT is pathetic. Do Necromancers need a trait to use their summons’ abilities? No. Do Rangers need it for their Spirits? No. Engineer turrets? No. Ditch Eternal Spirit altogether, and let you use the spirit weapon skills freely by default.
Spirit weapons actually synergize well with a number of other Guardian traits and skills right now (they’re pretty nifty in symbols for instance) but because of the trait spread you can’t properly use them with a hybrid build because the SW traits eat all your points.
I’m sure there are some other buffs the SW could use, but I’d say fix the traits first and then see where they are.
Oh, but I do agree with what someone said earlier about the knockback from the Hammer AA. Uncontrollable knockbacks are NO GOOD. They mess up other peoples’ attacks, and heck, they mess up your attacks for that matter. Either remove it completely and boost damage to compensate, or swap the AA knock and the activated ability knock so that the AA knocks down (for less duration, probably 1 second) and the activated ability knocks back.
It used to be very very good 1 year ago …. It was not detroyable and only needed 20 points on the 1st line
And why they changed so much.
Becasue it was easy mode, cheesy and totally overpowered. Pretty much why they nerfed all pets in this game.
That is the issue with pets in general, all fire and forget skills are extremely difficult to balance.
Personally i would love spirit weapons if we actually swapped weaponskills when activating one.
Just imagine activatiing bow of truth and you got 5 new ranged skills and when you swap weapon or activate the next spirit weapon BoT goes on cool down.
This would be a great addition for the guardians imo.
Pet AI in this game is really bad imo and anet would make us a huge favor if they scrapped pets/SW.
I’d like to see something similar to Ranger’s spirits. They still attack, maybe with less damage, but provide periodic party (self included) wide stacking boons while active. I suggested somethign like this in another spriti weapon thread.
Sword= fury
Hammer = might
Shield = protection
Bow = regen
When they where so OP and now they are so weak why they dont change it to a middle way. I mean i cant believe that its so hard to go a middle way to get them balanced i mean there was OP and now UP. So yeah balance it.

It’s funny and sad because it’s true. In the Dec 10th patch preview, we have the least number of changes, yet none of them is related to Spirit Weapon.
Yak’s Bend
Why bother being a Guardian if you don’t guard anyone?
Yeah thats also strange. All classes get so much changes but guardian so less and no changes at spirit weapons.
I just wish the weapons were there instead of Virtues.
You could use the f-keys to summon the weapon either for a short duration or just a 1 off effect.
Something like;
- “Summon a Spirit Sword to swipe at your foe, inflicts Cripple and Bleed”
- “Summon a Spirit Hammer to pummel your foe into the ground, inflicts Weakness, Vulnerability and stuns the target for X seconds”
- “Summon a Spirit Bow to bombard your current location with icy crystals, X heal/second and increases nearby allies (up to 5?) Healing Power by 150 for the duration”
- “Summon a Spirit Shield to slam into the ground at current location, enemies within the blast radius are knocked back and allies within radius are granted 150 toughness for the duration. Shield blocks projectiles.”
Though, it’s too late for any major changes like those now.
@Zach.3264 ur Idea sounds really cool.
Really nice.
Why not just make it like minions for necro and spirits for rangers, and before someone says that its not fair. necro’s minions can also attack and have skills too.
You guys are insane, there reason spirit weapons are not changed is becouse they are Anet approved. Everything is working as inteended.
Want a Utility that insta dies and goes on 30 second cooldown, pick the sword.
Want a Utility that insta dies and goes on 45 second cooldonw, pick hammer.
Clearly we are considered so strong that we need skills and even traits to buff these skills, why else would they leave them as they are?
Account and Char® name could
be the same, Profanity!?
Spirit weapons were never OP before, they were seldom used in fact. Now they are simply never used. It was change for the sake of change.

It’s just a remnant of the days when Spirit Weapons were invincible. It should’ve been changed when they removed invincible spirit weapons.

The hammer was OP back in the day. It’s chain would CC-lock someone since it’s chain activated more frequently and was faster.
(edited by ZoroDaOtter.3859)
The hammer chain hasn’t changed, only now it can be knocked back, blinded, dazed or just killed before finishing its 3 hit chain. The hammer was useful in pvp for CC, but the auto chain is so telegraphed it was easy to avoid. Honestly with tall the complaints about current petting zoo classes minions blocking targets, its a wonder more players aren’t looking back to the old guardian spirit weapon mechanics as a solution. Weaker passive pets with good actives that exist on short timers.
