As an avid guardian, and sPvPer.. WvWer.. PvXer.. and about anything that you can add on with an “er” in relation to the game, I have found myself wondering the point of Spirit weapons in the game as of late.

Now, don’t get me wrong.. I’ve tried -many- builds, I’ve been in hundreds of situations where I’ve tried to maximize and use them to their utmost ‘best’. I’ve specced for them, I’ve geared for them (full power, as it’s the only thing that effects their damage) Hell.. I’ve even tried not speccing for them and using them.

But I just can’t find a simple reason aside from one instance in the entire game(fractals, harpy, shield).. to use Spirit weapons.

They get near one-shotted in almost all PvX instances, they do little to no damage, the CD’s are almost insane, their utility is absolutely pointless (Bow of truth’s 1 condition removal every 5 seconds) the list goes on and on.. I find it sad, as I love the idea of having a REAL ‘pet’ type summon for the guardian.

So forum, I’m not above admitting defeat.. I have over 1,000 hours logged on my guardian, and I can’t think of ANY possible way to make spirit weapons viable for.. well.. Anything.

So, I ask for either your support, or perhaps even an idea to make spirit weapons in anyway viable.

i find SoA to be the most useful of the spirit weapons, and only in certain circumstances (projectile heavy content). the sword can be useful for early leveling, but its damage just falls off so hard late game. other than that though, i do agree that spirit weapons are lackluster.

Fear not me, but the Tempest that I am!

SotA is the most common used end game, coming in most useful in FotM. but i agree maybe if you wanted to use them in a DPs build for like 100% burn time on foe’s so you always get the +10% damage. but yeah i agree with you

Slightly useful in a zerg when some folks don’t pay attention to the fact you ordered Hammer to smack them down.
In PvE they are useful meatshields if traited right, but yes they will die quickly if grouped on. That just means I and the weapon put damage into some creature I can finish off after it kills my weapon.

All that attention on the weapon spares me from losing health. So they do have possibilities, but for certain situations.

Elona, Land of the Golden Sun….and undead…and poison. The travel brochure lied okay?!

I’m sorry but I have to disagree with you, they are hardly in anyway meatshields for PvE.. Unless you are counting normal mobs (I.E World mobs) rather then anything in a dungeon, then they are in no way a meatshield. They die in 1-2 hits in most dungeons if they are even targeted.

I had tried using some Spirit weapons in TA just last night, I used hammer and sword ( I am fully traited clerics as a healer) and despite the nice benefit of being able to stack might onto my sword, It was still doing utterly laughable damage, which was before it would get one or two shotted by various spider mobs however.

I don’t think it should be accepted however, for us to have a knockdown once every 60 seconds which if killed, won’t even work. With the amount of AoE I’ve seen in sPvP and WvW.. I can /never/ get my spirit weapons to last more then a few seconds at best.
