Stacks of aegis
Blind functions the same as Aegis as its opposing condition.
It’s absolutely fine as it is now.
Can you imagine if Blind stacked too? That’s the gameplay you would need to create if you let Aegis stack.
No change is needed.
I’ve always though a max cap of 3 aegis for 3 attacks blocked, as a general AA can remove all 3. A see no need to change the current overall skills & traits that grant aegis as to stack aegis would require using multiply skills placing them on CD. What this does is provide benefit in group play were you had multiply sources of aegis which before you would wasted your aegis if allies already had aegis possible wasting the skill to.
Also allow blind 3 stacks again improve these effects where multiply sources overlap. If need for stacking shorten the effects active duration, so they fade relative quickly but perform better around multiply sources.
Edit: added blind comment.

While I fully agree with letting AEGIS stack in PvP & WvW where attacks come very quickly in PVE it would be far too powerful where NPC’s generally attack slow.
It would basically encourage you to stack guardians and alternate AEGIS application thus ensuring nobody ever took damage.

I’d be for this, perhaps through a trait that enhances aegis. Wouldn’t care if it made PvE easier either, since it’s already pathetically easy.
If it can’t stack intensity then at least let its duration stack, it sucks having 20 seconds of aegis, someone uses “Shield of Judgment” and suddenly the duration goes from 20 to 4. With pve and the slow attacks of bosses you loose it before he even hits you in these situations.

+1 pve would really benefit from mobs having 2x their attack rate currently.
If they buff healing most of the open world will need some sort of buff anyways.

I think Anet designed aegis and blind to not stack to avoid the pitfalls of the previous game. In GW1 you could perma-blind things and enchant your whole party with perma-block.

This sounds like a bug. If this is really what happens, then something should be done about this at least. There shouldn’t be such a drawback to reapplying aegis.

I’m not aware of many AOE aegis pulse combo field are you?
Yes in theory they’re meant to be similar but they have a fundamental difference, blind apply to foes, aegis to allies.
That’s why in practice aegis is much scarcer in amount because it has less counterplays (berserker stance / diamond skin) and for guardians it also triggers powerful traits like shattered aegis.
Necro, thieves, engi all have blinding fields that apply to the opponent that’s why stacking it would be broken.
An aegis field on the other hand would be totally OP as a whole team could stand inside it for a 100% efficiency of applied aegis, for basically team invulnerability where as for blind ones people tend to avoid standing in it obviously.
So I disagree, Aegis stacks is an interesting mechanic, more similar to stability stacks than blind pulse in its applications.

I think this is a great point. Although mechanical they function the same due to the nature of their application; boon (self/ally), condition (foe) they have differing strengths.
I think we will all agree aegis was a really strong boon at GW2 release & can still be strong under the right conditions currently. But GW2 combat has changed so much since release & I believe these changes have / are made aegis a weaker boon.
Weakness
- Increase to unblockable effects, skills & attacks.
- Increase to AI attack frequencies.
- Only blocks a single attack so any random attack can remove it.
- Still is consumed when using other chanelled blocks, invulnerabilities or damaged by unblockable attacks.
- Stacks in duration but what’s the point when it only blocks a single attack & is typically an instant cast boon allowing for application at anytime no matter what action your doing so it can be applied to block that 1 shot attack.
- Oo did I mention the raise & increase of unblockable.
If you compare the strengths & weakness between aegis & blinds your start to see greater differences between the two similar effects. The largest being unblockable & it’s effect to aegis. Blind on the other hand has pulsing fields application which is basical blind intensity stacking & also bar Engineer’s Utility Goggles has no overall player effects that bypass it like unblockable does to aegis.
Last with regard to stacking aegis all current skills only apply a single aegis, you or your party would place of CD the same number of skills as the number of aegises in your aegis stack. Also note the duration of the aegis these skills apply & then compare that to their CDs you would be placing these skills on. And also remember that, that aegis stack you just build up placing these skills on CD can be removed by any number of random attacks & also be bypassed if attacks are unblockable.
The main reason I was looking at a stack limit of 3 aegis is so most AA chains were able to remove a full stack of aegis in a single attack chain.
We have pulsing blind fields if we can’t have pulsing aegis fields & more blindness immunities why can’t we have stackable aegies?

As far as I’m aware, blind has the advantage of completely negating an attack from someone whereas aegis only prevents an attack to the user. For example, one pulse of Lava Font is completely negated to all targets by a single blind, but if aegis is used instead, then Lava Font will remove all instances of aegis from all targets hit with one pulse. At least I’m fairly certain that’s how it functions.
So if an entire team stands in a field which pulses aegis every second, then the enemy would throw out their own AoEs onto that same spot which would more than negate the pulsing aegis (the aegis field would negate a single pulsing AoE attack in total). When you consider that this kind of ability would likely also have a fairly long cooldown, it’s really not as broken as you think it’d be.

The only difference is if said AoE was effected by unblockable now consuming the aegises but still apply it’s damage, but the blind field will still make the attackers miss unless their an Engineer with Utility Goggles.
