Staff build for PVE?
Stop liking staff and use this build http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vUAQNAR8dlsApUoNDxXI8DNhkzQkQQbGA0BVpIeuHA-zwBBYfERzkfBiKAOzsIasFXFRjVXDT5iIqGA-e The damage on staff is really bad and it should only be used for stuff like kiting mobs in ac, trash mobs in coe or ta flower busting.
The rotation and details are on the DPS guardian guide
that isn’t a very constructive reply. I’m aware of the meta gs s/f build. I came in here and clearly stated that I enjoy playing staff and I am not interested in switching up my weapons. I am simply wondering whether or not there is a better STAFF pve build out there than the one I posted.
I have never tried this build, just created it with build editor.
However I think this would be something for your gs / staff combination.
You’ve got 2x 10% extra damage because of the burning that you will apply. Your gs and staff both have a symbol, which will be bigger, do more damage and you will do more damage as well because of the vulnerability that your symbols will apply.
The main thing you lose is the boon duration. However, if you want longer boon durations at boss fights, you can still swap one of your skills with Hallowed Grounds, so you receive an extra 20% duration of your boons for a short time. However I do believe that you will do more damage with this build, because of the fact that the ‘+1% damage for every boon on you’ would only give you +9% extra damage maximum (because you can only have 9 different boons), which is less compared to the +10% of applied conditions.
You could also consider doing +20 in honor, instead of the +10 honor and +10 Virtues, so you could have the 20% time reduction on 2-H weapon skills. I do believe however that you will have more use from the conscecration skills reduction, extended duration and of course the boons on your virtues.
The only problem I foresee in your build is that the radius for your Radiance traits is less than the range of staff. So you have to be right up in their grill to even benefit from half of those traits. So get up in there and give them some burns and you should have some fun.
Above all, though, if you enjoy staff, stick with it. Spam your F1 with the rate of death you would get, and get either an on-kill insignia, or an on-crit insignia and you’ll be fine.
Curious, how do you use staff? Why do you like it?
Personally I love staff as well, I love the swiftness before or during runs. I love the Line of Warding. I love empower before fights, or even possibly in them for the heal + might sometimes. Then even staff2 is not bad for healing if you need it.
Now, this is something I find myself conflicted on. My group prefers to have a support guard around for various reasons that would simply derail the thread if we went into =). But Half the stuff staff offers, are things I can get without ever actually using the staff in combat.
Swiftness before a run, open inventory swap in staff lay the field, swap back to the other weapon.
Might before a fight, swap to staff, empower, swap back.
Even Line of warding can be pulled off like that for some things if you time it all right.
You’re traited up for more DPS than I am. You’re geared for more DPS than I am. Why not try to maximize that DPS in fights? You even have the master rank in radiance, which you could easily swap that for the sword damage and go sword/focus.
Then just swap in staff when you need it’s tools.
Of course if you’re thinking WvW/world bosses/other zerg activity, then yeah staff is kitten as it tags everything in front of you, but honestly IMO that’s it’s main battle use other than some burst healing, which is what I use it for in combat, but I’m not sure how well it’d do for you without the healing power, honestly I haven’t looked into it.
The only times I think a staff is just a great thing to have in combat is Zergs, and TA, outside of that it’s never needed, so again I’d ask, are you sure you really want it as more than a utility swap in?
As far as a build for staff… /shrug I don’t think there is one. 2h mastery lowering reuse, but the reuse on it’s abilities aren’t really a big issue. It’s just a mid range wide AE cone with mediocre damage, but a whole bunch of utility.

I have the same question as Jerus. Why do you like staff? Is it because you like to roleplay as Gandalf or something?
I feel so frustrated when i get staff guardians in my pug runs. I never say anything bad or kick then, but when i see that a staff guardian joined i know that it will be a long run.

Aye, Guys who camp staff… ugh.
Guys who swap to staff to use it’s wide variety of utilities, I like it.
That’s speaking purely from a dungeon perspective though. Staff on a wvw guardian, yup it’s nice.
Speaking from a dungeon perspective that is. Again, in Zergs, yeah staff is nice and easy
It does have its uses, mainly for trashmob skipping and that stuff.
If you don’t have any other sources of a mass might-generation, staff might actually be good for the team’s overall DPS as well. Mostly its just a bad weapon however.
But I just tend to use a staff sometimes anyways, because its fun to play around with it. Neither me nor my guild really cares that much about shaving a few mins at most off a run.
empower isn’t that good.

Play what u want if u want to do it. But the staff is aweful in in PvE. The build doesn´t matter. It´s like the torch, a useless weapon is still useless, even of the build is optimized for this weapon.
Even in WvsW the staff isn´t that great. Empower for regroup in guildraids 3 for swiftness and 5 to controll enemies but u should never use it in combat. Spamming 1 staff is the reason why ~ 50+ puplic zergs get destroyed by ~ 25 guildraids.
Staff 1 is horribel bad. And Empower should do some dmg per tick to make it a dps increase.
