Hi there, I will go directly to the point;

I have tried a couple of guides and right now Im focusing on GS/Staff, but Im having a little big issue; cant put out enough damage (tried zerker, PVT, conditions) to kill most people, and when I do manage to get someone low enough, I dont have absolutely any way to stick to them and they usually just run away from me.

Please, is there anyway to play DPS Guardian who can finish the job?

If you’re having trouble sticking, may I recommend trying out a one handed sword and meditation build? The teleport weapon abilities and skills may help you functionally have a gap closer. Additionally, you could use the hammer to temporarily immobilize and then establish a ring of warding to keep them trapped in close for you to press the finish.

Using knockdown with bane signet, then following up with ring of warding or that five skill on gs can keep people close to you. Just make sure to count their dodges. After they have used two in quick succession, HP for the knockdown or immobilize, leap of faith then whirling wrath. Gs isn’t that great for open battles like wvw, but using WWrath and Symbols on points can be devastating. Also, consider a retaliation build, as many fast attacking classes can melt themselves down with it

try a meditation build with hammer and sword/focus, you can use ring of warding and mid cast you can use judges intervention to teleport to them, that combos a nasty surprise

The boonway build I run specializes in sticking to people using a combination of perma-swiftness and extreme resistance to conditions and control effects. Very, very few classes can outrun you with perma-swiftness, especially with the amount of gap closers Guardians have on their weapons.

It sounds more like you are roaming as you are talking about getting down a single player, if that’s the case then the staff is a bad idea, its a zerg weapon, and is only useful when fighting more than one person. I carry one of everything with me, because things change and you might need to swap out, but for my normal running I go with GS and septer/focus and have no trouble keeping with most people, I also run with meditations. And there are by far more/better ways to set up a build or weapons choices that would allow you to keep up with someone or keep them in place than what I use.

Learn the classes you are having problems with, that is the biggest thing I see people have trouble with in this game. They have one class and know nothing or very little about others and they tend to have allot of trouble fighting them, as the saying goes, know your enemy, it is a game changer when you know whats coming or what they can do. You end up knowing how to space your skills and the outs a given class haves and how to be ready for them or spot them coming and to stop it. Thieves are the only ones that this might not help allot with, they do have some of the best outs in the game and have many of them, best thing with them is to let them over commit and pounce when you see it.

like others have deduced, sounds like you’re roaming in WvW? are you usually looking for 1v1’s, etc? like many have suggested, meditations build could be what you’re looking for.

i’ve recently ran 10/30/30/0/0 with GS and scepter torch, triple meditations and it’s extremely fun to play. alternatively you could go with scepter focus as well, but immo. and bursting with zealot’s flame is a lot of fun. with focus, you can time your shield of wrath and judge’s intervention teleport to people as well for burst and get them down quick. then GS helps to pull them back in or leap. though i assume you can switch to hammer for another immo (harder to pull off against a good enemy) or RoW to trap them (though again, good players will stability or dodge out).

but i agree with what Tink wrote in the second paragraph. do learn your enemy’s skills so you can counter them. try to bait your opponents at times to chase and then surprise them. i think it’s quite key about having your opponents over commit and by the time they realize it’s too late, it’s too late. XDD they can either start to run and lose. or stick to fight it out, and lose.

A well placed ring of warding is your friend.
