Hello my fellow Guardians,

I am quite new to this game. I have just recently ding lvl 80 with my human guardian, and so far I am quite happy with him. However there are still few questions that I have in my mind, that need some answers. I really need some input from all of you veteran Guardians out there, about how to make a good defensive Guard with some decent offense. I really don’t want to take full glass cannon, but still able to dish out some damage while at the same time can hold my self against multiple mobs. Now I am talking bit more on PVE here, I know there should be some tweaks here and there for PVP and WvW.

I have seen some threads where some Guards can have like more than 1000 healing power. My question is do we as Guards need that much? Atm I am sitting at 610 healing power and so far its ok, do I need more? Also what is the safest HP pool a Guardian should have because I know Guard have lower health pool compared to say Warrior. At the moment I am sitting around 20.5k hp, thats with 30 points on Honor, 30 points on Valor and 10 points on Virtue. I dont know if this is the best set up so I am willing for some feedback if I can improve it even more. I have seen Warrior have like with 25 to 28k hp and his Str, Tough, Vit is on the 2k range and I do envy them sometimes lol…

I realize if I want to have some more healing power, my hp will have to drop but I dont know how much I can drop , is it until around 15k hp? Because I dont want to have my HP too low. Some champs on pve can hit really hard on me. My stats I think are decent, all of them ( Str, Tough, Prec, Vitaility) are all above 1k, my lowest is Prec which is in the low 1k, and my highest is my Vit which is in the 1.9k range, both my Str and Tough around 1.6k atm.

I am currently wearing Vigil Set ( Pow, Tough, Vit) with superior rune solider 6/6, and all of my weapons using cleric set with heal power, Power, and tough with smoldering sigil ( increase burn duration by 10%). My jewel set are Power, Vit and Crit damage. I know there is better armor set out there, but this are the set I am using. I might need to upgrade later. I usually use Mace with off hand Torch…dunno why I just love using torch and the other is set is using Hammer. Sometimes I use mace +focus if I really need more defense. I am not really a fan of swords ( 1h or 2h) but I think its just personal taste really.

Is this good enough? Btw this is just for PVE, as I still need to finish my story line quest, and still need to complete some of the pve maps out there. I solo most of the times in pve but sometimes pugs with some random out there if they asked me to join them. Thanks again cheers, Sorry for my English. Its not my native language

0/0/30/0/5 is what you need, trait whereever else you see fit.

0/0/30/20/5 is more focused on 2-handed weapons especially if you are a fan of the Greatsword.

Then all zerk gear.

Outcome:
13-14k hp.
Great healing with Alruistic Healing (Valor 30)
Decent toughness, and above average damage output due to close to 50% crit chance and high crit damage.

Side notes: Utilities I use are retreat for aegis/speed, SOY for stun break and extra boons/speed, JI for mobility and stun break. That usually covers being stunned.

Condition removers are important, so I’d go either for a soldier rune set, signet of resolve, use whirl light combo, go 30 in honor for the shout cond removal or 20 in virtues for virtue of resolve cond removal.

And renewed focus as elite. I personally use rune of lyssa to make my elite more awesome.

Anyways, my $0.02. It does really good damage, you can tank for pretty much all scenarios unless focused down by 3-4 1 shotters. You can condition remove well and break stuns whenever you get knocked down. And you are invulnerable for 3 seconds with all boons (if you use rune of lyssa).
