I’ve been starting to get bored of using GS on my zerk guard, but I’m not sure if I should use hammer or sword. Also, what’s a good offhand? torch or shield?

If you are bored using GS you should try the other weapons and choose the most funny.. but sword and torch traits are both in radiance, so I suggest Sword/Torch.

But how is it when it comes to damage?

The best damage comes from Scepter/Torch and Greatsword, with Zeal/Dragonhunter/Radiance or Virtues build (change Dragonhunter for Virtues if you don’t have HoT), Torch is the most damaging off hand.

Scepter only deals high damage but sword help you with fury and give you some projectile denial while dealing good damage

Go for hammer if you lack some sustaining, third attack on aa chain gives you protection which you can upkeep if quickness is provided.

Scepter is good for high tier fractals since you can range more without/barely giving up dps. Gives you more room to play incase people are stacking up and ticking agony instability. Otherwise i would say sword duo to fury and projectile blocks.

Torch is your most damaging offhand weapon. So go for that when ever you can. However if you need blocks or more sustain, you can try focus or shield even. That being said focus used to be good duo to its blast finisher, triggering retaliation. However blasting in light fields now applies condi cleanse. so not sure if focus is any good outside the blind on mobs and personal blocking. Shield is in that sense a bit more group supportive since it gives protection and projectile blocks, as well as a minor heal when you detonate shield of absorption while channeling.

What do you want to do with your weapons? Sword is very good when you are playing solo, since you get mobility, fury, and a bit of defense through AoE blind. But it’s not good in party content.

Hammer requires a different build to work, since you need Honor (Writ of Persistance trait), and the way it feels (slow animations and autoattack based) is not for everyone. However, it feels a lot better in organized groups, when you enjoy perma-quickness.

Scepter is my go-to weapon for groups, you have range and good damage.

For an off-hand, Torch is good for damage, Focus is very good solo, since you get AoE damage and 3 blocks, and Shield is not something you carry everywhere, but it’s good when you need more CC, projectile block and some extra aegis.

You will enjoy sword more if you are going for damage. Hammer hits hard but it feels slow.
