Hello fellow guardians I am new to the guardian profession (mainly been using it for spvp). I made a sword/ shield build that is suppose to be semi bunkerish so it maintains a nice damage output along with tankyness since that fits my playstyle the best. It runs quite nicely in the spvp setting but I wanted to ask is it viable for anything else other than just spvp? Also if you see any improvements that could make it better any advice would be helpful.
Note: In pve I usually run solo.

As much as I would like to make Sword/Shield a fun way of playing Guardian, it just is not.

All you can do is auto attack, as opposite to other weapons where you can setup combo fields, do combo finishers, and basically, press more buttons.

Well this could be just me but I still feel more active than a shortbow ranger spamming 1 all the time for a kill whether its pve or pvp.

Sword and shield allows to me to be reactive much easier really.

Because all i have to do to lay on the damage is press 1 once I get to be ready to react to the situation with my other skills

Blind or Protections against huge attacks, Sword #3 against projectiles, Shield #5 against projectiles/knockdown interrupt, condition removal/stability. All done at the right time with ease

the problem with sword / shield on a guardian is the feel of the playstyle from the skills feels different from all their other skills.

sword / shield is great for spirit weapon builds, but I don’t think anyone else uses those anymore.. Autoattacking is fine, but thats just part of the skill set. Its much more “wait and react” kind of playing which is kind of strange for all other guardian weapon sets. (except hammer)

I would recommend switching to mace instead of sword.

and a focus instead of a shield oddly enough I feel I have more survivability with one, as opposed to a shield… which is kind of weird if you think about it.

Just don’t understand what they were thinking having a focus being a good choice for a melee class.

Sword shield is a bit of a fire ice kind of situation. See the sword is used mainly against single targets, whereas the shield is used mostly in group situations.

You could if you wanted to dabble in a “jack of all trades” kind of build

The shield is useful in 1-on-1s, as well. It provides additional natural defense to your stats, protection from Shield 4, and an interrupt and healing from Shield 5.

Focus is awesome for melee. You get 3 blocks and a buff on one skill. Works great.

No, I understand that. I’m just saying a focus looks ridiculous being carried around by somebody wearing heavy armor.

It does :/ I have had to learn to use the Shield in a melee way and for it to become useful lol (It is really hard)

I think Shield5 and Focus5 Should be switched lol makes way more sense.

So yah I have tried Torch sometimes for some extra DPS but I gave up and just stick with Sword and Shield haha
