if you want shield , you want to support allies and cc a small area . . mace + shield or scepter + shield are better combinations than sword + shield

I guess none of you do the Triple Headed Wurm event ..

I do this event at least once per day on my guardian, and my task is to block the eggs the wurm head spits out every 40 secs.

To do this I use the shield #5 skill, along with Wall of Reflection …

Oh, and I use sword/shield because when the wurm is vulnerable, we need to stack on the DD spot and use cleaving weapons.

So, sword/shield does have a use …

shield does have uses, I’ve his shield #5 in WvW while trebs and catapults were shooting at me and bounced them right back. I don’ know if you can still do this, but you need the timing right either way.

Sadly shield is really useless in PvE and only find a bit of use in some PvP bunker builds… i suggest you to go with focus but hey, sword/shield is wonderfull to see… if you like the idea of “guardian with sword and shield” i can understand… the most important thing is to create a character which you like to play.

I also would LOVE to have a sword/shield build on my guardian… But sadly guardian shield is among the worst weapons in the game, and now that you can’t cancel the channel while maintaining the dome anymore I simply cannot for the life of me convince myself that looking cool is worth having such a terrible offhand.

I wouldn’t trash Shield that much, shield gives you quite abit of extra defense at all time. Not to say that shield skills need some ups, or at least reducing CD,

I disagree. Torch 4 is an excellent 1200 range nuke that synergizes very well with scepter.

Torch 4 is a dps gain over focus on single target, I use it for abom solos. Apart from that, it’s not a good weapon and there’s no reason to take it over focus.

That’s been patches out long time ago sadly, can not block or reflect treb shots anymore.

Against a brain dead opponent, maybe. But you’re not gonna beat anyone intelligent with a rabid signet build condi guardian.

You won’t solo lupi either. Well, it’s worth trying, but you’ll have far more difficulty than a real build.

Soloing is entirely different from base PvE. Dungeons weren’t built for solo runs.

Also, there are plenty of videos of players doing Lupi solos using suboptimal builds. My point still stands.

1v1 isn’t pvp either. You shouldn’t 1v1 in pvp, because you’re loosing time killing your opponent instead of decaping when he’s gone. There’s plenty of videos of players killing a bunch of people with suboptimal build as well. So you either give real advices or just tell everyone to not care since all game modes in this game are easy. Winning have different meanings and only completing a path isn’t a win in pve. Pugging is for pve what hotjoin is for pvp, and saying “pve is easy, don’t gear for it” is asking for players not willing to adapt their build, wich then turns into the called “pvers” getting into pvp without a clue. Your point doesn’t stand.

At this point you’re just attacking a strawman. I mentioned nothing about 1v1s in PvP, or anything about what I was talking about being in reference to sPvP in particular. You also fail to take into account the idea of players having varying skill levels, which I already mentioned previously. So fine, keep posting in attempts to make a fool out of me. It’s not working, and I no longer care.

That statement was in reference to PvP. Not 1v1s, not sPvP, just PvP in general. I’m not posting any ‘misinformation’.

He’s asking for sword/torch not scepter/torch. Don’t take the torch in PvE or anywhere else if you’re not nuking at range or are in danger of getting hit.
