Sword/shield and Great sword
Whatever you like, basically. There’s little about the weapons that pushes you in one direction, or prevents you from taking another.
I run two builds. Right Hand Strength 10/30/20/10/0 with Sword/Torch and Scepter/Focus. -or- Altruistic Healing/Empowering Might 0/10/30/30/0 with GSword and Staff.
Gear gives you the most effect so decide if you’re going support, dps or protection first. After that is decided and gear is acquired you can mess with traits.
I decided that I wanted more damage output but not full Glass Cannon. My gear is zerker/soldier/knights mostly and it works with the two builds I like to run. I decided I wanted 16k hps minimum so I geared to that, any Vitality traits I take past it are just bonus. Working on a secondary Support/Protection gear set for when I want to be more tanky.

like Ynna, i want to say you can go any trait / build essentially. sure some weapons may synergize better with certain builds. for e.g. if you have both swords, i.e. two blinds, you may want to invest at least 10 into Radiance to get Blind Exposure. but i wouldn’t say it’s necessary either.
what have you been playing so far?

awesome, thanks for making this thread since I also enjoy using a
Sword/Shielt + Greatsword combo and I wanted to build my Guardian around that.
I do a lot dungeons/events and I want her to be a supporter:
buffing allies and keeping them alive longer.
I’m fairly new to being a guardian and I have 0/0/30/30/10 for now… maybe gonna change it if I find something that fits more =D
I also swap the sword for Scepter/Mace depending on the situation..
As for gear… im not quite sure what to use on my accessories..
I use PTV on my Armor,
Thanks to my necro I have already two PTV Ascended rings…
And I will probably go for vit/healing on the accessories and the sword/shield since I read that there is a DR on toughness… what do you guys think?
If I had to pick one trait to maximize each weapon..
Right Hand Strength, Radiance 30 for Sword.
Two-Handed Mastery Honor 20 for GSword.
Honorable Shield Valor 20 for Shield.
This puts you at 0/30/20/20/0. This lacks AH but can make up for it with heal on crit food. I personally like this build as it’s very versatile with most weapons, kinda my hybrid, ‘do everything OK’ build.
I usually won’t build anything without at least 20 in Valor because most of my builds push Crit% and w/o Valor your crits are low. 20 in Honor is usually taken unless I don’t want to use GSword and Staff.
Mace/Shield and Hammer really really benefit from working with a few specifics, more so I think than other weapons. 20 in Valor (Shield), 10 in Honor (Shouts) and 10 in Virtues (Boon Duration) + Protection/Boon Duration Runes and Food will allow you to keep Protection going full time. This leaves 30 pts that most will use to finish off Valor and Honor.
