The New Symbol of Swiftness
Stay frosty! Keep it tight!
I’m actually liking it for longer distant runs. Stack it, hit retreat and save yourselves; you get a huge bonus. I lay it out ahead of me and usually get 1 or 2 ticks; I’ve been able to keep a permastack.

It has pigeon holed Guardians into a shout centric build if you want swiftness. For those Guardians that want to run a meditation build like myself, we’re just screwed! Thanks Anet, I have rerolled Warrior.
It was said many times. Most people hate this change, becouse it helped only big zerg that already had perma swiftness and it hurted individuals a lot.
It destroys self swiftness massively. Good luck trying to catch anyone running from you.

They could have limited the effect to only 5 people plus the caster then poof its gone. Another effective change would have been to make it AoE rather than a symbol were it only effects so many people plus the caster! Now the only way to get swiftness is through shouts. Just plain sad and pathetic that some other solution wasn’t implemented rather than what we got.
This change was just another nerf to meditation builds.

This is the most annoying change I’ve seen in any game in quite a long time.
Malzerius – Thief
Dark Covenant (SBI)
It’g great for arah skips. That 20 seconds of swiftness + retreat is more than enough swiftness for any arah skip. I love it for PVE Dungeons <3. It blows for WvW though.
Chuck The Stampede – Engineer
[Lg] Agatha – Dragonbrand
They should just rename it to Symbol of Supplemental Swiftness

I don’t hate it so much, I stack 30 seconds of it, then just pass through it on the run until it’s out, then stack again. Also you can stack up to 1 min while waiting around for camp/sentry to flip.
I’m loving the new SoS for resource runs. You’re always waiting around for 5 seconds while you harvest anyway, so just toss out SoS before you start harvesting and stack up your 20 seconds of Swiftness each time.
Can’t say I’m fond if it any other time, though.
Every time I cast SoS in my group they don’t have the patience to wait to get the full swiftness duration.
I suppose it’s nice for prepared long distance risk runs. But it ruined the chance to quickly run from A to B and chasing enemies down.

Right. Who wants to keep stopping to get speed buffs? The whole having to stop and not move at all thing kind of negates the advantage of getting any extra speed. The bottom line is no one, whether solo or in a group, wants to have to keep stopping for a speed buff. This was abundantly pointed out by players when they proposed the change, but they went ahead with it anyway.
Now, to be fair, I haven’t played the game since the patch, so I’m not judging from first hand experience. But judging by the comments here it seems to be working out pretty much how most of us expected it would: meaning it has some advantages when you ARE stopped and have a few seconds, but for general getting about on the map, or in most combat situations (WvW) where you don’t have a dozen Guardians slinging down SoS in front of you, it’s NOT an improvement.
Am I right or wrong? Any consensus?

If you ask me, it’s an improvement. Yes, I know you can keep perma-swiftness up while running around. However, while in combat and you drop the symbol, you actually get some nice swiftness if you fight in it for 2 seconds.
Swiftness saves lives.
Like others have posted in the past the first tick should be 7 secs like it was before patch and the rest can be like 3 or so secs a tick etc( Don’t remember how many tick it does). I think that would help both sides.

I played few days with this in Spvp now and it is soooooo annoying. When i need to get fast to point that is taken by enemy i have to wait for speed buff. This is absolutely out of logic and terrible.
I would voted it to be the stupidest change they ever did to any class in history of GW2. Not the most devastating but ,,The stupidest".
Stack symbols + boon duration you can get more than 1 minute swiftness without any problem any time you want.

Yes it was said already many times. But stacking symbols happens mostly only in big groups – Zerg and zergs already had perma swiftness. They didn’t needed this change. And boon duration? Who use this? Almost no one.
For Spvp no one, in dungeons almost everyone is zerker or knight or PVT. Maybe some part of WvW but again there are zergs ans zergs dont need this change.
So this change is bad.
As far as I am concerned it was a nerf and meant to be nerf. It is possible to only get one tick of it in the situations when you need it to the most. Sure if you have time to to stand in it for a little its great but for someone like me who uses it in tpvp it was harshly nerfed because to use it to try to chase someone down or get away from people or go between points as fast as possible I frequently only get half the time I used to. I can’t afford to wait just long enough to make sure I get two ticks a lot of the time because every second counts. NERF!

A guildmate laughed at me because I had to wait in my circle for speed buff last night
Malzerius – Thief
Dark Covenant (SBI)
It’s broken as intended. I was on my guardian last night. I leveled her mostly through WvW, so she doesn’t have all the meta WPs. I hear Shatter will be up soon up. So I WP to one just outside the zone. and had to stand around waiting twice just to get the full affect.
I might time the run without it at all to see how much time you actually save.
Then I’m in WVW trying to catch up to a 10 to 15 man roaming group. Yeah same annoyance.
I’ve gone to 80 on everything but ele. This is by far the worst speed increase. When I can honestly say mesmer requiring a focus or engi and the constant swap of speedy kits isn’t as bad that’s saying a lot. IT may seem like QQ but when I was logging off it made me seriously debate putting more time in my Guard.
There was absolutely no justification for this nerf, honestly. Couldn’t believe it when I saw it.
I like it! put it up 1 sec before you intend to run and you get the same duration (or more). And since I mostly run with larger symbols it’s big enough so if I put it in front of me while running I will get 2 ticks (8 secs) without stopping.
As is has been said, it’s great in zergs but also if you put it down while fighting in other aspects of the game you’ll have about a minute of swiftness when that fight is over
