Q:
1v1 and Queue
Q:
Sup my Guardian fellows
Id like to introduce myself. My Name is Snoow, for some people also known as Enis Beqiri. I play Guardian pretty much since the first Beta-Weekend and played Gw1 since I was a little Brat. The gamestyle I played the most till now is SPvP, espeacially Offensive Guard in 1v1 and some Time ago I was also pretty high ranked on the ladder (like rank 20 at Team q).
Thats why its very important to me that Guardians are a well balanced class.
Here is MY personal Problem with Guardians. Guardians are ment to be the very first Person in Fight and the last who leaves the Fight, which is super awesome, because thats exactly what I love the most about playing Guardian. But there is ONE exact Problem for that when you play OFFENSIVE GUARD:
The Sustain.
Before everyone starts a kittenstorm against me, let me explain Guardians aren’t the most versitile class in GW2 and our Sustain consists only in our EXTREMLY HIGH potential of Healing ourselfs, Condition Cleanse, our Boons and our Blocks/Blinds. But how good are these ways of sustaining in Structured PvP? The Blocks/Blinds are pretty good, the condicleanses are also pretty decent, the boons are also okay, but there is only one problem, THE HEALS.
Healing in SPVP just isnt a reliable Way of sustaining, cause you will NEVER be able to outheal the Damage you take. I would love to rely on an other way of Sustaining, but there are pretty much no Way of playing something else, because there are only 2 Skill Types playable for Guards.
The best Sustain is AVOIDING the Damage, because you will NEVER outheal it
1st the Shout Bunker
2nd the Meditation Offensive Guard
For HoT I was so hyped up, until I’ve seen how the Traps work. And I as an extremly experienced competive Player have to say, I wont play any of them except the Elite Trap and probably not even that. WHY?
Because the Traps are Pretty good for WvW and PvE but no Offensive Guardian in SPVP would EVER put away their Meditation Skills for Traps with these effects.
Thats how Guardians still will be forced to Play either Shouts OR Meditations even in HoT.
CONCLUSION:
There are one way of making Traps more attraktive and giving Guardians another way of sustain.
1st Changing one Trap and giving them the effect of an disengage while setting up a trap on your old position which does low Damage and removes like 1-2 conditions or gives a 3 second cripple to foes (the activation effect should be weak). I KNOW that this totally is against the playstyle Anet wants to see Guardians in, but still, it doesnt have to be a long range port of 1,200 (900 would be enough). I just want a short brake sometimes, cause we simply cant outheal the Damage we take as Offensive Guardians QQ
The 2nd Way could be some Longbow Skill like the Thiefs Number 5 Shortbow Skill which ports you. It can have a long cooldown, but just being able to have a ground target port, which lets you port where you want would be awesome.
I would love to read your Opinions about this Topic. I think it would make Offensive Guard much more awesome, but Im also open for other opinions.
Have a nice Day
What PvP guardians really need is mobility. We’re fine in every other respect.
I mean a longbow skill port would be super sweet but so would a trap (set up like thief P/D skill no. 3) when proc.d it would port us backward 900 range. could be super helpful bc you are right. when the ouch moment starts to happen you really have no option by try and kite….but more often just die. Only gs 3 gives us mobility without a target.
The thing is, sustains come from mobility as well. Since we lacked mobility, our sustains is worse than everyone else. Add poor “spear head” control options and we easily fall behind against these mobile self-sustaining classes.
We don’t need mobility because that’s not the Guardian’s style. That said.
HoT gave us a ‘bit’ more mobility through virtues, an actual range weapon with control options and an immobilize F1 effect that may or may not be useful depending on its mechanic. We’ll have to see how effective these additions truly are. I would have settled for a 3/4s teleport instead :p
Not everyone likes Meditations nor do they want medi to be the only viable spec option. I see people wanting a bit more higher burst and traps offer just that. Traps is also a new playground for people who are looking for a different playstyle.
Speaking of diversity, I do wish Sigils would get a functionality upgrade. It’s be nice if we could actually use sigils to target and buff people instead of ourselves but I guess that’s the role for Druid and Revenents.

Yeah thats exactly what I mean. The thing we need is mobility in form of a port.
Either a trap or a longbow skill. I would love to see that, because heal just isnt reliable sustain in team fights. It doesnt have to be a strong port, just add a ground target port on a long bow skill with high cooldown. that would be awesome
Even mobility
Access to a reliable slowing effect
What really needed to be done is Anet to come clean and say they didn’t really make it to be a stand alone class and it’s suppose to be pigeonholed as a support class. But fear not folks because they are now going to give the class a bow so they can offer support from the backline…. Had I known what I know now I never would have rolled and leveled one.
@Kamara today I played my greatsword sword/focus meditation build in conquest. In several of my games, I was able to 2v1 or 3v1 and get people down. In one match, I went 2v1 against two thieves, they got their Initial burst off, and I used my virtues and elite, then went through a normal rotation. Came up with 2 kills and capped point. Same game, I go 3v1 and down all three right before I get downed myself.
I think guardians can do pretty well on their own.

You encountered bad thieves. Smart thieves would do attack 1 at a time and when you use virtues on first thief second would bring you down. This way like yours I can down 5 low skilled thieves with stability up and combo ww + mb + smite + air +fire + chill .
