They don’t seem very situational. It would appear that they are intended to simply be used on cooldown provided there are enough allies near you.

This doesn’t make for very engaging gameplay- personally, I wish they’d overhaul it.

i don’t like them. the fire one when traited to recharge on dead enemy is good, but rest i think is overall weak

I like the concept and if you trait them, they are more valuable if you use them at the appropriate times. My only beef is that traiting them tends to favour VERY specific effects at the Master level and at the GM level, a specific effect AND either the active or passive flavour, not both. To me that doesn’t make sense because an individual virtue is not enough to be a major element for a build and doesn’t justify dedicating a GM trait to improving it.

So renewed justice/justice is blind, absolute resolution, indomitable courage, and aegis use isn’t situational?

Virtues are incredibly strong even when soloing when traited. Not so much otherwise.

Guardian Virtues are almost worthless unless you trait them.

Might + Blind +Vulnerability = VoJ

Condition Cleanse + Burst Heal + Regeneration = VoR

Block + Protection = VoC (stability and/or burst heal if you trait for it, but not many do)

VoC is probably our most situational and least well utilized active virtue.

VoJ gets plenty of useage, and VoR has good group utility.

All of the above synergize extremely well with self healing via Altruistic Healing if you are in a group environment that needs it (wvw)

The passives are really unflattering and I feel they should be given a second look

VoJ and VoR passives are okay. VoC’s Aegis every 72 days is less useful, yeah.

As other already said blind on VoJ, cleanse on VoR and stab on VoC make them very situational and impactful if you trait them. I don’t really see a problem with the meh passives though. Strong passive effects are boring and bad game design if you ask me. :<

Personally I would love it if they changed virtues up a bit.

Make them more akin to stances, in that you can have 1 active at a time for extra effects (extra effects on some weapon skills as well as slightly stronger passives) (switching between them would still trigger effects similar to what they do now)

This would make them much more useful then they are now but in a balanced way

For instance

1: Virtue of Justice, increases all damage by a set %, causes every 5th attack to burn and gives some weapon attacks special offensive effects. When you swap to it it also causes all allies to inflict 5 seconds of burning on their next attack.

2: Virtue of Resolution, Causes you to regenerate health, also causes some attacks to heal nearby allies. When you swap to it it cures a condition & heals all nearby allies.

3: Virtue of Courage, reduces all damage taken by a set%, causes some of your weapon skills to grant protection to nearby allies, when you swap to it it grants AEGIS to all nearby allies.

Strength of the passives & special effects on weapon attacks can be adjusted on a per weapon basis.

All in all however I believe it would add more complexity to the class & make it better able to specialize in whatever role you want to do.

My favourite Virtue has to be VoC simply because it is so situational and you have to use your head a little bit to decide when to use it. Timing it properly to deny a knockdown when your stomping someone is a very satisfying feeling.

It takes a bit of practice to use Virtues properly which is why many find them to be a bit lacking.

All it really takes is common sense.

Reason I’m not too fond of them is that they seem kinda meh compared to some of the other classes mechanics.

I find common sense to be lacking more often than not when it comes to playing games (myself included in this I know I’ve done some stupid stuff and wondered why) which is why I recommend praticing a bit.

I find Virtues more interesting than the Warrior Burst skill or the Thiefs steal but that’s just me. I wouldn’t complain at all if they gave us something a little more ‘flashy’ though without making them overpowered.

“Interesting” is the correct word, effective is the other word. They do “ok” but I still feel they need a slight push for refinement.

I’m always using mine, if you’re not, you’re not utilizing your guardian to it’s full potential or you’re running insanely easy content that can be beat by just mashing 1.

I run virtue of Justice with the might & blind on use, alongside the refresh on kill, I spam this one, because it’s going to be up very soon.

Virtue of resolve I try to keep off cooldown as much as possible for my own personal little bit of regen, but it has been handy in keeping myself and group members up in a pinch, even untraited it’s still useful.

Virtue of courage, it’s an Aegis on demand, what’s not to like? I use it to either get the aegis buff for the 20% damage bonus when i’ve already relinquished my other Aegis generating sources, or to grant my party a “1 time kitten up” buff.

I plan on maining a revenant in HoT, and i already know I’m going to miss my virtues.
