Once upon a time, there were beautiful tomes on my guardian. They were useless, had long cd but the concept idea was “perfect” for a semi caster profession. When Anet decided to remove tomes I was shocked. Why would someone waste such a beautiful concept when they can rework on it and make it perfect?

I know it is not a “hot” topic. And I would prefer Anet to fix bugs in the game, and work on balance issues. But I want to ask anyway, why wouldn’t we use tomes as an engineer uses her toolkit? Wouldn’t it be a more versatile and funny elite to use? One can choose among two tomes, and it would really bring some roleplaying (and visual) flavor. I was always assuming that guardian’s elite spec would be something like a caster who uses tomes (healing or wrath).

It is just an idea without any statistical calculations on skills or any other thing (they must be reworked accordingly to this). But there is already the concept of “tome” and the mechanics of “toolkits”. So maybe it would be fun.

Good question; I won’t pretend to understand ANet’s inscrutable logic though.

People got the ranger-wannabe spec that nobody asked for this time around, so hopefully tomes are up next for a nice change. :>

I agree. The effects on Tomes were pretty stunning. Maybe they will get reworked for a future specialization, something along the lines of a Sage… Remember that April’s Fools class from D3? The Archivist?

I do agree hopefully tomes will be next elite specs utilities, and they can work the same way as kits do for engineer. Could work with a rune priest name although I can’t decide on weapon for that, maybe book offhand like focus?
That already gives us 2 nicely prepared elite specs to come, Paragon spear chant(mantras) being the other.

If they worked exactly like kits do for engineers it would be a bit too powerful.

Engineers only get access to one weapon because of their access to kits.

Without something to make it a trade off it would be to much of a straight upgrade.

I guess so but elites are starting to break those conventions, and many threads on engineer forums apparently suggest weapon swap for the next elite anyway. Or the other way around, if they are balanced correctly maybe we could lose weapon swap next expansion in favour of tomes.

I’d drop weapon swapping for tomes without a second thought. I’d drop more than that if I had to.

Same here. Tomes would bring uniqueness to the profession and would prove that she is also a caster profession. There can be rework to prevent “op” problem however.
