Torch Rework?
I use Torch. The #4 is a wonderful means of both damage and mantaining burn (for the 10% dmg trait.) #5 serves its purpose to cleane conditions.
No complaints. GREAT offhand!

Both those traits combined make you do some really mean DPS with Smite.
I don’t like the Torch personally. While #5 does cleanse conditions, you’re better off using something like Purging Flames which doesn’t have such a strict positioning requirement. Nor does Purging Flames ruin your personal DPS while it’s active like #5 will. The exception is that #4 can be used as a decent burst attack in PvP and WvW, but in PvE it’s very close to useless.
I do wish it were a better weapon, but it suffers pretty badly compared to other options. Hopefully it’ll be revised at some point in the near future.

Leave my Torch alone. If anything it needs to remove conditions on yourself every 2 second on torch 5. Besides that it works exceptionally well.

Play it in a DPS build, put on some zerker gear. Torch 4 can crit very well(I talk in WvW/PvP sense)

I use torch a lot in PvE and love it. To me, the best advantage of torch is that is very effective when untraited unlike other weapons. The torch traits, those I would tweak a little bit, with the emphasis on “little”. But I wouldn’t touch the torch itself.
In dungeons and fractals I often run sword / torch or scepter torch. Since I was doing fractals yesterday, I like doing sword torch on trash mobs and scepter torch on bosses such as the shaman, ice ele, and couple others. Its a great DPS weapon if you have the right set-up. You dont need to waste trait points for it to be effective, you can run a hybrid or support build trait wise with zerker gear and still do a reasonable amount with it. Takes some practice. For example on the ice ele with scepter / torch, I can do half decent DPS to the boss, while killing and kiting the ever spawning elementals so they dont overwhelm our party, while at the same time doing a bit more cleansing of the “chilled” condition on anyone that needs it and chaining the boss under the lava being poured down on it. Again, positioning, movement and CD management take practice, but is very effective in this and many other situations.
In WvW however, it isnt as viable as its cleansing and blindness is not on par with our other tools, both for small and large group scenarios.
Torch is useless in PvE, nothing to complain about. It can do nothing that can´t be do better while losing less dps.
To say Torch is a nice dps weapon…u should do a little bit math about DPS and your class.

I love my torch in PVE. Searing Flames to remove a boon from enemies, and Fiery Wrath that increases damage aganist burning foes mesh very well with Radiant Fire. Scepter 3 then Scepter 2 then Torch 4 & 5 is my favorite combo.

True enough torch 5 is a damage loss in PVE and mobs but in WvW roaming and such. It’s a great weapon. Torch 4 for the nuke, and torch 5 functions as a mid range damage skill, useful for people trying to get away from you but are still at a distance, and the thieves pistol 5 ability.

Torch simply serves its purpose as an offhand for those who don’t need the Shield’s projectile blocking, or the Focus’ personal defense.
There’s no other way to “play it properly”, when it simply serves its role to cleanse conditions and apply burn, as oppsoed to defensive skills.
Focus deals more dps, and is better support for your group cause of Vul (traited) and blind for trash. And persononal dps + finisher and at least to keep UC active (which means even more dps).
Burning is, or should never be a problem if your group is not completly dumb.
But you´re right at the torch roles, but it should get buffed here. 5 should deal more dps and remove a few conditions from the guard too (2 or 3 over the channeld time).
4 is ok i think.

Torch is a fine weapon. All they need to do is reduce the cast time on Cleansing Flame.

i loove the torch. given taht i don’t use it much in PvE. it’s nowhere near being terrible like so many make it out to be. sure it’s not top DPS or utility but it’s not bad.
in WvW / PvP though torch is awesome for burst. though more suited if you’re more offensively geared with high crit ratings. but that’s just me thinking. : ))
i agree, either lower cast time on torch 5, or up DPS, or have it remove at least one condition from yourself when you activate it and then lower duration of other conditions or sth while channeling or sth. add a TEENY bit more utility into it would be nice.

Torch is honestly a great offensive offhand, not just due to the burst on throwing #4, but because it works so well with typical 1h builds. If you pick up Fiery wrath, radiant power, and RHS, you can activate #4 (without throwing at first) and light people up for 20% extra damage + burning damage + the 15% crit you get for your main hand. Then right before it expires throw it for burst + extra burning duration. Also with the new(er) torch trait, you can pretty much keep burning up 100%. In WvW it works so well with the scepter simply because if you start getting kited you can at least use the throw for some range burst, and also #5 works well to damage thieves in shadow refuge (along with laying down a smite on it) Honestly though, the #5 could use a bit of a buff, since it really has no use outside of a group, or outside of hitting 3 targets, maybe upping it to actually hit 5 and making the cone a bit bigger might help.

Sword/Focus + GS or Hammer is much better then Scepter/Torch or so.
In PvE it´s much better to let a ranger take Sword/WH and Sword/Torch, more burning, not rly a dps lost for the ranger and a firefield.
Win=Win, guard torch is not such a good choice. I tried it often in PvP and PvE, but i can´t find a build where torch shines over another weapon.
Cause it´s utility is bad, it´s only nice for the 4 burst. But GS/Hammer can do this too, and have much more cc and utlity.
Lower casttime for torch 5 or higher dmg (should do a little bit more then AA spamming), conditionremove for the guard and/or boon remove from enemys. This would make the torch pretty well and uniqe.
Using Torch 5 for DPS means no condition/boon removal. using it not, less dps but bonn/conditon remove. Players choice.

You wanna to change the #4 (which is good) and make #5 worse (which already is bad)?
I agree that Torch needs a rework, but the #5, not #4. The #4 do a descent dmg (also burns) and the #5 is good only to remove conditions from allies – the dmg is awful and not remove conditions from yourself.
4 needs about 1 second (or a bit less with aftercast) to finish the skill+throw it.
But it´s ok. It´s a small dps boost and good for burst in PvP.
But 5….as i write above.
Increase dmg to let it be a small dps boost and remove boons from enemys and/or conditions from the guardian too.
Doing this will make the torch a good choice in PvP and PvE. And the player have to decide:
A bit more DPS or boon/conditiom remove?

My problem with torch is that it doesn’t bring anything new to the table that I can’t already do. It applies burning and removed conditions. The only interesting thing that I think torch does is a single AOE burning application, like VoJ with Permeating Wrath. Not worth the loss of defensive elements from Sheild/focus.
just don’t touch torch 4 and i’m good. sure it may take some time, but it can hit so hard.
time it with JI, shield of wrath, immediately follow up with protector’s strike, that’s potentially up to three 6-9k hits in WvW. that’kittenting up to 18-27k damage within a few seconds.
but a few examples:
[added: again, shield of wrath when it goes off will most likely crit higher than zealot’s flame. so why not take both? though if i had to choose ONE, i will admit, it’ll most likely be focus. but i absolutely love playing with both. and with the focus, if you pop the shield mid fight, chances of it going off drops considerably if you plan to use it for DPS. so that focus burst usually happens at the beginning of the fight. where argubly, you can torch 4 back on a shorter CD and you can time it to up your chances of landing the burst. it’s slightly ranged as well (just know when you can afford to use it ranged), albeit single target. compared to mace 3 and focus 5 which are AoE burst.]

Torch #4 is great. Its a fantastic ability. Insta-cast means you can activate it any time without interrupting whatever else you’re doing for free burns on nearby enemies. And the cast-off projectile does a lot of damage. Even the cooldown is pretty darn good. The only change I’d make to Torch #4 would be to let it hit 5 targets instead of 3, because it feels needlessly limited for no reason when almost all other AoE is 5.
I doubt offhand symbol will ever happen, even if they were going to redesign Torch. Offhand symbol would mean Mace would be able to double-symbol and Mace / Torch + any 2H weapon would be able to triple-symbol when swapping. Which would probably be too much for stuff like the symbol healing trait and AH.
Torch #5 could use some improvement, though. Its decent vs groups of enemies and has some utility in the fact that it lets you back off from melee but keep attacking (mostly useful for Mace which otherwise has no range), but its not all that good overall. Self-cleanse would be nice, and I’d also be curious if it’d be possible for it to create a cone-shaped fire field when it ends. Or, rather than keep the current breath channel, maybe they could just turn it into a cone-shaped fire field that damages and cleanses, which would also solve the problem of letting it cleanse the user as well, because you could step into it after using it to cleanse yourself.
that could be interesting and giving us an option of having a fire field on a weapon.
although i absolutely LOVE being able to move usign torch 5. how many i’ve downed using torch 5 while they’re trying to run nd yuo chasing them. or thieves in shadow refuge. or just simply repositinoing yourself as enemies move you can hit max enemies and max alleis for cleansing if needed.

Please do not change the #4 on torch. We could argue how #5 sucks (it does fulfill its role though…), but PLEASE, do not change #4!
Torch 4 is fine, well designed.
The only fix Torch 5 needs is to clean conditions on yourself as well as others / that or raise the damage a bit.
Other than that, it’s a fine weapon that needs some practise to use at full potential.

The torch 5 really needs to remove conditions on pulse. I would personally love it to act like smite conditions and initially remove 2-3 conditions and deal more damage depending on how many conditions it removed.

Torch #4 is fine, maybe the initial skill is a bit questionable but the throw torch portion of the skill hits really really hard in pvp. However its not very good in pve.
Torch #5 needs its channeling lowered by 50%, make it clear conditions on pulse for yourself and allies.
