Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
So Grouch has confirmed in the PvP forums that trapper runes (and sinister stats) among other things (most likely a zealot ammy too) will be available next week.
I think these runes could give both DPS and burn guardians viable dragonhunter builds that don’t need meditation skills to survive. This means you can potentially drop valor altogether, which is especially good for burn dragonhunter builds that would want to stick with radiance/virtues. Meanwhile power builds can just stick with virtues and zeal and use the stealth and super speed from the trap runes for general survival and utility and repositioning for longbow bursts. Even better, the super speed helps with the dragonhunter movement speed issues that everyone here has been crying about!
Anyway those are my quick and dirty thoughts on this new gameplay style, so please let me know what you guys think and discuss~~~
nearlight out
Sinister & zealot would be a no go in PvP.
Both would leave you far too vulnerable to conditions & burst due to not having any toughness or vitality.
If they were to make an amulet that had power, vitality, healing power then it would be great for guardians.
The vitality or toughness on an amulet is really a must thogh unless you massively outskill your enemy.
As for trapper runes, they don’t really have much cohesion with dragon hunter.
The stealth & super speed looks nice at first glance but when weighed against CD’s its meh.
Dh also doesn’t really bring much in the way of conditions that cannot be done better by other specs (other then cripple)

If sinister is a 4-stat amulet with vitality, then it will work fine for guardians.
The main advantage to these rune sets is that it gives you better disengage, which is a guardian’s ultimate weakness in pvp. Dragonhunter will likely work well with condition builds, even if they stay carrion, simple because the cripple gives a cover condition that is unavailable to normal burn builds, while hunter’s fortification gives good sustain that lets you survive without valor and meditations. For traps, I think fragments and procession of blades and the elite trap could be potentially very strong due to their PoB’s multiple hits and utility of the other two.
Heh….heheh….. hehehehehehehehehehehehehe.
There are a few issues with the Trapper runes. Stealth lasts 2 seconds, you have to use valuable cooldowns to activate them and if someone steps into your trap…. well bye bye stealth.
That being said there might still be a way to use it effectively. I just need to test if I’m correct first.

The runes could work in combination with the new pull on Spear of Justice. You lay down the traps, gain stealth and super speed from runes, quickly throw spear of justice (thanks to super speed), then burst down your opponent.
quickly throw spear of justice (thanks to super speed)
Super speed isn’t quickness, it doesn’t speed up your animations.
I can’t wait to get that Zealot amulet (assuming it happens), it’ll open up so many DPS/Support builds.

Whoops, you’re right. In that case they are more supportive towards a kiting build.

I guess my thought process is that the stealth is more of disengage and repositioning tool rather than something you rely on to engage the enemy like a PU carried bandwagon mes prenerf. And to be honest I think the most important part of the stealth is losing target from the enemy (especially when focused in teamfights), and the super speed carries you from there. Also the wiki says its 3 seconds, which doesn’t matter too much. Although the new targetting system could render that part moot though. I’ll PM you the build idea I have since you’d probably be able to help me tweak it better than most people could.

the stealth can be used to utilize traps better.
drop multiple traps then either leap behind target stealthed, knock them in the trap via shield #5 and or Hammer #4 or simply use our new pull. A main issue with guard skill sis always the “easy to avoid” argument. well its not when it is coming from stealth.
Depending on the details of our F1 this will be an extremely strong skill in many situations. looking forward to pull enemies in WvWvW and spvp

You pretty much leave yourself open to burst
I really don’t see how healing power will be able to give us enough sustain to face something scary like a reaper, scrapper or chrono.

Yeah I don’t think sinister/zealots will be that great for guardians simply because of the low health pool disadvantage. I think a trap build with carrion (or marauder for that matter) would still be viable though.

I’m actually thinking of something like a CC/Bunker DH but it seems to lack sustain due to not having AH. Could always replace Virtues with Valor as DH traits mess with the instant activation.

well for pure of heart in you build might take care of half your concern. the other half might be compensated by the often overlooked fact that wings of resolve is good for 6700 hp healed on a 26 sec cool down. (if the numbers of gw2skills.net hold up) thats a 50% heal.
this is close to twice as effective. We just need to think of our F2 more then a condi cleanse.
If they add rune of the defender to pvp this will be even more fun.
I do not see dragons maw in your build however. RF is much better and FMW as well.
