Hello,
I really have no idea what I am doing and I want to stress I am just experimenting here and looking for some feedback. I have tried a very “tanky” build for general PVE (up to level 62) and nothing could kill me but it was all a bit slow. So, I came up with this as a possible idea which would increase power / precision while still having good survivability (I hope!). Would this work do you think?

Blimey, is it that rubbish an idea that it gets thirty-five views and no comments?

I don’t really understand this build. I feel like it’s either doing something very special I don’t comprehend, or not doing much well at all.

For no particular reason I did this to it trying to keep roughly the same idea and make it… more.

-condition removal more spread out. One each 10s, and one on activation of heal, signet stunbreak, or ‘passive extra damage signet with low cooldown’. Then there’s as many bounce-backs as you can get out of focus #4.

-Blind from sword #3 and focus #4 in addition to virtue of justice.

-Vuln from blind, and hammer’s auto attack symbol. Symbol lasting longer should hopefully keep you in protection given your lack of boon duration. Hammer skills don’t need using very often anyway.

-Still 2 stunbreaks, but now with lower recharge and stability. You could use ‘hold the line’ instead of the other shout though for some extra healing and protection.

-Focus #5 is slow untraited but can be used even if knocked down, etc. and comes in handy now and then.

-Better crit chance for vigour, so you can dodge more and heal-on-dodge more, though depending on your gear this could mean a lot or very little.

-Signet adds a bit of mitigation to make up for less armour.

I would not suggest either of these builds in WvW.

OP says he is level 62 so he is likely looking for a leveling PvE build in which case he doesn’t need uber meta stopping condition removal. Just something to get that kitten poison off. Go all DPS and learn to dodge while leveling. Dodging is an important skill anyway and mad DPS will help you level faster. If you are a big baby like me you can use health per second food while leveling.

Try this:

I included food and armor etc.
Swap Writ of the Merciful for Pure of Voice if conditions eat you up or you are playing WvW.

This is for level 60. put your next 20 points in Zeal or Valor. You will likely do something totally different at 80 depending on the game mode you focus.

So Zeal:

or Valor:

Ninja Edit: I know these builds don’t match the “Mad DPS” I mentioned in the first paragraph. I was mostly talking about DPS armor like zerker if you can get it or power/precision armor otherwise.

If you are not yet 80 I always suggest to our new brethren to simply play with ALL the skills, swap stuff around, new gear, new traits and new ideas as much and often as you can.

When you hit 80 everything changes and THEN you can begin looking at a more perm and long term build. Prior to 80…learn all you can and experiment!

Its good to see you trying out your build, OP, but it has no real synergy between the skills, weapons and traits which just means more fun and games for you as you learn how each aspect works with one another! This was my fav part of being a new Guard a year ago at launch, the fun involved in the learning process.

Thanks for the helpful ideas folks. That’s what I needed. No, there is probably little synergy between skills, and that’s exactly the sort of thing I needed to hear. I was just throwing some ideas around without really knowing what I was doing. I’ve actually restarted another guardian (it’s complicated!) so I’m back to very early levels now, so I’ll just mess about with different weapon combinations and then as I get more, traits.

I have no idea what the meta is TBH, I just don’t like conditions or control effects.
