I would love to hear, and think that many Guardian players would also benefit a lot from hearing, about what “creative” or “unorthodox” uses others have found for traits and abilities.
We have such an amazing tool set with a lot of potential for secondary uses, it is easy to assume we have worked out the intent and limits of our tricks.
A general example to get things started – we have around eleven hundred interrupt type abilities, hiding inside various shields/bubbles, if an opponent ability has a cast time they should rarely be able to complete it.
Specific example – JI to a friendly while casting (racial) healing seed, targetted MI with a better heal and an AoE enemy burn – ready to be followed up with an area denial ability to maximise the recovery potential.
Oh how i wish we could JI to a friendly (beta it worked) or have targeted MI QQ
During hammer autoattack chain, dodge roll immediately after the 2nd attack, your dodge will cancel and you will barely move but you will still proc selfless daring heal and shorten the cast frames on symbol of protection. It’s an exploit of the dodge roll bug which Anet is never going to fix.
Just for fun, wall of reflection on graveling breeders used to reflect their vomit and spawn graveling hatchlings for the guardian so you could have your own small army of hatchlings that caused bleeding on autoattack. Though this was fixed from the 12/3 patch.
Also, you can reflect dredge mining suit bombs back at it with wall of reflection in the dredge fractal.
J.I. doesn’t land on friendly targets now… hmmm must have somehow mixed up the behaviour of 1HS#2 and it.
What I’m trying to highlight here is that “3 seconds of effect” type abilities often have a secondary which is as useful (if not more so) than some of those primary ones… or lead to interesting combinations.
I use sanctuary with the 2 traits related to consecration skills and it has a lot of uses. For whatever reason, using both consecration traits with sanctuary increases its duration from 6 seconds to round 12 seconds or so and reduces the casting time from over a second to almost instant. These effects are not stated in the tooltips, but they make it much more useful, in addition to the reduced cooldown and ground targeting with 900 range. Some uses I’ve found other than the standard self-protection:
-Cast it on downed enemy at range to prevent his friends from rezzing him.
-Cast it on an ally about to be finished by an enemy.
-Cast on a keep/tower door to prevent fleeing enemy from entering the tower.
-Cast in front of an enemy that is running away.
-Cast on a narrow bridge or in a doorway to prevent enemies from passing through for a while.
