Guild Wars 2

I want to hear from guardians who run any of the tomes as elites in competitive play. Are they viable? I WANT to use these abilities, as renewed focus is great and all, but boring.

How do I properly use these tomes? I’m fearful of the lack of stability with them.

pop SyG beforehand or better yet, stand on hallowed ground.

Teamkiller is right about the stability.

Tome of Courage is pretty fantastic, using it at the right time can give your group a lot of staying power and basically reset the fight as far as their health is concerned. I think for group sizes 3+, it starts being better than renewed focus.

Tome of Wrath I’ve only used on walls to nuke rams and then it’s not bad.

Also, when you use tomes your stats increase fairly high.

Wrath increases Power/Precision/Vitality
Courage increases Toughness/Vitality

Mostly I don’t notice the increase in stats, but if used preemptively and built towards those stats, you may be able to see more damage or defense on big cooldowns.

Or you could use the buff in those stats as a filler in a build that lacks those stats. Cover your weakness or buff your strengths? I think tomes need some sort of adjustment in how they work in the end. They are nice but not clutch enough for the length of the cooldown for me.

i used to use Tome of Wrath in WvW quite a bit. i didn’t use 5 as much.. but if i had stability, i’d open with that. then usually 4 followed with 2, or 3 and spam 1.

for Tome of Courage, in addition to stability, a lot of people open with 4, dazing foes and then go directly into 5 for the full heal.

i’ve also seen folk use the longer lasting elites in WvW if your sole focus is to support and they use ToC, which lasts quiet a while longer. probs not as viable in a PvP setting.

Completely viable. I run Tome of Courage in WvW 100% of the time, IMO it’s the strongest elite in the game. Just don’t be afraid to use it early, or to just use it to spam ‘1’ to buy some time for other cd’s to come back up. #3 is also extremely powerful and often overlooked. i actually haven’t actively used ToC before, but I am slotting it in and hoping to get some good practice with it. i’ll be checking out your videos and see if i can pick up a thing or two. that’s very true though, when i see others use it, i rarely see 2 or 3 get touched!

modDW: great duel! – I think I would have got tired about halfway through and made a stupid mistake ;-)

They work great, you just have to use them right. You can’t jump into the middle of a zerg then pop it, and be like lulz im invincible!

They’re support tools. You have to sit back, to make sure you give the skills off. Light of Deliverance is a game changer if you can get it off. Best to use Pacifism first, that’ll make LoD really only interruptible for two seconds.
