Valkyrie gives lots of ferocity iirc. It’s power, ferocity and vit.

Good use of free stats. With quickness and shield you have 2.8k+ armor, plus your previously mentioned crit rate hovering around 80-100% with retaliation and Fury. I think you could get away with something similar replacing Firebrand with Zeal, trading defense for damage.
Play the exact same build with vanilla and DH and its pretty sweet.
When i play vanilla i swap DH for zeal/virtues (depending on mood) and use sword/scepter. Played 5 games last night and topped damage and/or kills in all of them, even the two games i got steamrolled in.
Zeal/radiance/valor is just mean with scepter.
Valkyrie and radiance is pure love tbh.
I love that arenanet is slowly making valk builds playable on different classes

The change to Radiance is all sorts of fun, I just wish we had a dps alternative to Valkyrie, something like power, ferocity and condi damage.
I did make some valkyrie gear for open world, and I hope they fix the retaliation trait on firebrand, because it wasn’t working with the heal’s mantra charges.

Until they buff Guardian’s base HP, no amulet w/o at least +560 to vitality will work in sPvP

I mean, there are some guys who make no HP guard builds work (Arken comes to mind). Just takes a bit more finesse and you gotta understand that you can’t just jump into the middle of everyone and expect to live for very long.

Valk is all fine and well, but especially with PoF, there will be ALOT of boon hate. Daredevils, spellbreakers, necros, condi rev, and mesmers will usually be able to leave you just a bit salty as they tend to strip quite a few boons. Only problem with running valk and the new retal trait is that if you somehow LOSE the retal, your damage just takes a nosedive off of a very steep cliff.
As of the demo weekend, power-based firebrand works about as well as core meditation guardian; i.e. DH is completely superior.
However if tomes see the buffs that we’ve suggested, it could end up being very effective. Team-based support on one end, and potential for some nice bursts on the other end: CCs on ToJ and ToC paired with exiting the tome + quickness + burst isn’t something that DH brings in melee-range.
Yes, assuming you hittting a burning target and have radiance teaits: guard realy doesn’t need crit chance on 1-handers and the vita is far better served. I personaly get my Crit to 20% and then go Valk
