Greetings fellow guardians.

First of all, I would like to mention that, me, as one maining a warrior, was never an ALT person. Always been the one who mains one profession and sticks with it. Well, this time, things changed. I’ve pretty much done everything as a warrior, completed the look, build, map, legendary and all the good stuff, and I thought to myself that I need a change. Something fresh.
So I decided to give one ALT a go. A guardian.
Without bothering you, who is reading this, too much, I am gonna jump to the point.
Just started leveling up a guardian, and I am having a blast. As much as I had fun leveling a warrior too. Now, that said, note that I am a complete beginner to a guardian profession, with somewhat barely basic knowledge about it. With that, I come to you guys, seeking some guidance, and advices.
As a warrior, I was a frontliner (in WvW slang so to speak). All the time. Taking a lot of damage with possibility of returning a lot back. This is the same way I want to play a guardian. But, I would like, with being a frontliner, also to dish out huge support to my allies with ability to dish out some damage back too. As far as PvE is concerned, same thing, a lot of survivability with great amount of support and fair damage.
Now all that being said, I am looking for advices. Starting from the skills, traits, weapons and gear.

Thank you so much in advance for your advices, and hopefully you guys are as helpfull as guys at the warrior subforum were months ago.

Cheers!

When I levelled my guardian (at release so things may have changed) the easiest way to play was to dump 15 points into radiance and pick up renewed justice then spam F1 skill on mobs.

After you hit 80 though, strife’s build is one of the more popular, documented here:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/70142-after-100s-of-hours-my-final-guardian-build/
It spams boons on everyone around you and in turn heals you. Useful in any group situation.
For solo play you can easily flip it over to a meditations build (swap out altruisitic healing for Monk’s Focus and all your shouts for Judge’s intervention, purge conditions, etc).

At the very least this provides a good starting point for coming up with new and interesting builds.

The way I am spec’d revolves around mass condition removal and maintaining constant retal throughout a fight. I don’t really build into any damage nor do I use any equips for damage. I’m almost pure tank, but can still hit hard with the help of retal and some of the other traits that increase damage based on boons/endurance. Shout Guardian basically so you are laying down support for your allies as well as yourself.

Overall it works out really well in wvw not only for small mans but also larger fights.

I am pretty interesting in playing with Retal, what is your trait setup like?

It might seem a bit weird….compared to other builds. I was going to get around to putting up a video of my build on my channel this week, but I run 0/0/20/25/25. All your shouts give retal or two of them do. One of the major traits increasing retal by 25% you can constantly keep about 30+seconds of retal up through a fight.

Alot more to my build, but thats the majority of the retal part.

Cool, can’t wait to see it. Do you know the impact of +cnd dmg on retal?

According to the wiki, retal damage is increased by power, not condition damage.
