:) I’m trying my best to get a 1080 version out for each video I upload, but the last one bugged out and didn’t process for HD, so I have to try again. Working on two more right now. Lemme know if there’s anything in particular you’d like to see.

Gameplay and presentation look great. Looking forward to the HD versions. Looks like a really solid build philosophy. Tons of healing and toughness. Toughness counters direct damage. The healing counters condition damage. And you use shelter and renewed focus to counter burst.

You kite and LoS to let your health regeneration work for you to tip the scales. Sword ports are used to reestablish contact. So, there is a lot of dipping in and out of direct combat. Good stuff, probably the strongest solo build I’ve seen for a guardian that can still actually kill people in a decent amount of time.

finally got a chance to watch the vid and get back on here. great stuff!! hearing about your build in theory and then watching it in action are two completely different things.

as Oozo pointed out, great use of movement and utilities and timing. all things i need to work better on. seems the +healing power gear is quite essential to this build? or rather, matched with this build, it really does shine. i’m getting used to not having AH and being able to survive.

and yes, particularly enjoyed seeing using LoS and kiting to regen and get away from dmg. very well done.

keep the videos coming! if possible, would love to see your build in various situations. any group play vids as well? if you do, is there anything you switch around to accomodate for being in the presence of your allies?

The primary reason I named this build for the healing power is because people underrate it as a stat. I wanted to combat the poor press that it seems to get all the time. The real star of the build is toughness.

That said, it’s not impossible to give up some HP for vitality if desired (it may actually be a good idea), but this build does rely on higher consistent heals, so… to answer your question: I wouldn’t say it’s absolutely essential, but it is definitely important.

For group combat I’ll sometimes swap out my third utility for Wall of Reflection, but that’s about it. I may also change out my x/focus set for the staff, but that’s rare.

I’m trying to work out some small-medium group combat clips, but it’s a bit of a pain to get good footage sometimes. My next video will likely take until the end of the weekend or so to publish.

i do appreciate this. as when anyone new to the Guard or the game in general and ask about HP, people shun it right away. toughness i’ve definitely always appreciated as a Guardian. i may switch out some gear for HP instead. but i’ll test the trinkets and weps first.

I always used P/V/T with a mix of Knight on my Guardian but after leveling up an Ele and running with Clerics gear, I’ve been wanting to try out a Clerics set for my Guardian. This post and your other one definitely pushes me to try it out. Gonna be broke again too :[ haha.

Also, looking forward to the WvW videos man. If that small fight at the end of your build video was any indication of the full video then man does it look really good so far.

WvW Minitage is now up in 1080. The new video isn’t as great, but I did manage to get it up in 1080 as well, and I think the gameplay is pretty solid. ^^

Next video should be out shortly after Christmas.

Those are some awesome videos man. I just started playing the game a week ago and have been switching between a lot of different builds. Your build is definately the best and most fun one I’ve tried so far.

hey Chris – thoroughly enjoyed the vid with commentary. provides further insight into how you approach enemies using your build. again, great use of LoS and picking out your targets and it’s refreshing seeing how you keep the pressure on your enemies, while being able to mitigate your dmg, and playing up the strength of your build (staying in AoE for retal and burn on blocks, etc).

i think one of my greatest downfalls is situation awaness as well as i can be prone to get tunnel vision sometimes. with this build you need to be extremely mobile and knowing where your opponents are, anticipating what they’re going to do and react / act accordingly. all of which you greatly showcased in this vid! i need to up my skill ; )) great watch.

hope you’ll be able to do more of these in the future. learned a lot and very enjoyable watching at the same time.

New video posted! Guardian PoV 3v18. It’s myself, my GM (a D/D Ele), and one of our newer guild members running my Healway build taking on a fairly long string of SoR last night. Hope you find it entertaining.

Good job on the vids doesn’t seem that choppy to me. But then again I’m not anal about guys attempting to be social and give back.

New video! The Gates of Arah. There’ll be a “round 2” at some point when I can manage to really fight the big guy alone. It’s obviously pretty hard to truly set that kind of thing up though, so…eventually.

Awesome vids I loved watching the 3v18 WvW. I run the same build (0/0/10/30/30) for sPvP bunker build, but will probably now try it on my Guardian in WvW. Im mostly Pow/Prec/Tough, but I think it will still work out great.

Additionally, the energy sigils blew my mind. Worked great with SelfDaring and as general evasiveness. The only tip I can give you on gameplay is to watch conditions a bit more carefully; some better timing on the improved resolve activation would have boosted your survivability even further.

@Chris – i like the idea of your solo PvE vid, but like you mentioned, you can’t stop others from joining. i’ve seen a few others post vids of soloing dungeon bosses! and that’s one way to ensure no one “interupts” your fights. perhaps you could have a group bring you up to certain bosses, they leave, then try to take them down. 1v1. could be interesting and fun if you chose the right bosses!

anyways, read in the other thread you started to use the hammer for a bit using this build. did you happen to get any footage of that? just curious to see and always looking to see how other Hammer Guards play.

No footage of hammer gameplay yet. A guildmate told me it wouldn’t work on mobile for him either. It’s due to copyrights (I need to start using more royalty-free music…), so I’ll be unable to fix that. Sorry. :/

last night, went home, fired up my PC and watched it. you should feel honored! lol jkjk. good fights all around again. just realized it must be so frustrating to fight you. i think at certain points, it’s not even, “he never goes dooown!!!” but rather, “his health doesn’t even go downnnnn!!!!”

The first time I ever fought him I couldn’t figure out how he managed to blow me up like he did. looked back at the combat log and realized that I had blow myself up with ZD and WW.

after watching Chris in action did i learn to pay better attention to my retaliation up time and even further, when to apply if possible.

[and just to add, a large portion of the Guardian community said healing power was not wrth it, or retaliation was not worth it after the nerf – and Chris begged to differ XDD]

I intentionally went full healing power just because my research showed that 90% of the community hated it and said it was garbage. Everything else was kind of a fluke; to be honest, I didn’t even realize that retaliation was up 100% of the time and was really helping until I started working on my 1v4 & 1v2 video from a month ago.

I was a noob and I got lucky. :>

same reason i started a 1h sword dps build. half the community gets that it works now, but back when i started it it was garbage and the only guardian was an AH/EM one. though half still believe that still anyways.

I’m still told that my build is garbage by AH and sword-crit Guardians on a regular basis.

i am just glad the Guardian community has folk like both of you. just browsing around the interwebz, more and more are mentioning the “healway” build and like you said, Bash, more are seemign to accept the 1h sword or other builds.

though, i will always remain attached to my hammer. ; ))

getting this one back up there for people to see. everyone like the Peacekeeper video!!! lol. i wanna know Chris’ updated build. ; ))

again, needless to say, loved it. i kind of really enjoyed the new style of cutting in and out. the fight in the dark was intense. loved the countdown and GO! as well picking up with the stomp. in this video i really got to see the agility of this build (GS + sword combo specifically) and how you’re able to stay really tight on your targets. almost tempting me to switch out my weapons to try this out ; ))

p.s. just a small aesthetic suggestion as i almost saw it happen. would be kind of cool if you’re into cutting in and out of videos is to cut in and out of your channeling moves. i.e. end of one clip, you’re using WW, and then fade in and out and beginning of new clip you’re WW-ing as well. same as with ZD on sword. would be kind of a cool effect methinks.)

In other news, my next montage-esque video may be a little ways away. I’ve recently upgraded to Adobe Premiere and will be spending some time learning to use that. I’m also on my legendary grind, finally. (: 77 Clovers down!

I’ll try to put out a few things between now and the next montage to keep myself busy. There are a couple of ideas I’ve been dying to use in a video. ^^
