[Warrior/Guardian] Pros and Cons
Of the two, I much prefer Guardian. Has good dps output as well as innate tankiness from traits and virtues and great team support.
Guardian staff (900 range) and sceptre (1200 range) are lots of fun, and guardian definitely has more cc options available.
I would say though that my opinion isn’t yours. Try both classes out, see what you like (You can just make a newbie and throw it at pvp to test what each class is like at 80)
I’m having a hard time deciding between the two.
I’m looking for a solo/small group roamer in WvWvW.
I want to deal sustained DPS and have strong CC/Imob.
I was think of Axe/Shield + Longbow for Warrior and Scepter/Focus + Greatsword for Guardian.
I need to have a ranged weapon on any class I play, I’m just weird like that :p
Is the Longbow any good ( Warrior )? I find its AA taking aaaages ( definitely not .75s ) and its damage seems mediocre unless it’s a full condi build which I do not want ( I prefer to rely on skills [zerker gear] and not conditions)
What are the pros and cons of playing a Guardian/Warrior. Which one do you think I would enjoy most?
Thanks :>
With the stuff you want to do warrior would be the best. If you think warrior ranged is bad you never saw the kitten guardian has. It’s just a bad joke.

For Roaming I have to admit Warrior outshines Guardian. Longbow is a great weapon because of the areas and the conditions, if you really don’t like it go Rifle but remember it s a single target weapon. Now for the main weapon you’ll have to chose between Hammer (more stuns) or GS (more mobility). Build is here: Warrior – Hammer/GS Roamer
Guardian would be more squishy and going with Runes of the Traveler is recommended, but this will make you lose a big part of you DPS. Scepter/Focus is a good combination but your auto attack and area attack are way too easy to dodge-predict. Guardian will outshine in zergs even more that the warrior. Build is here: Guardian – Meditation Roamer

Guardian staff is actually 600 range. And while some of its skills are fun some could definitely use some buffing.
It really depends on the context. When it comes to solo roaming, Warrior far outshines Guardian. However, when it comes to small group comp, support Guard is one the best professions to go. Most of the groups success rest solely on the Guard(s).
However, since you want sustained dps and strong CC, Warrior is definitely the way to go imo.

…However, when it comes to small group comp, support Guard is one the best professions to go. Most of the groups success rest solely on the Guard(s).
Goes out to everyone, not just Harbinger, why is the Guard the best profession to go for group encounters.
Does the success of the group really rest on the Guardian that much?
Rough break down of things a Guardian will provide for group encounters:
- 600 range friendly condition cleansing (1200 on a 60s timer with VoR / not including virtue reset with Renewed Focus) approximate 11 conditions cleansed with 3 shouts wearing soldiers and VoR trait for 11% condition cleanse
- 600-1200 range 5 tgt Aegis on 32s traited timer and 69-90s timer depending on virtue traits. Approximate 3 Aegis every 75s on an average build for approximate 4% attacks blocked
- 600 range 12 stack group might with an approximate 65% uptime
- 600 range regeneration boon with about 26% uptime
- 600 range stability boon with about 25% uptime
- If mace approximately 6% of attacks are blocked (1 block per 15 seconds, if you can count it like that)
- If sword/gs you have approximate 17% of attacks blinded (10s and 15s over 60 second calculation. So 4 with GS and 6 with Sw)
- Can include Wall of Reflection for 38% projectile reflect traited.
- Self healing in a group with Altruistic Healing makes for a lot of survival, where enemies should target someone else if they can’t drop you in the first rotation
Outside of that, I believe it is Elementalist that can group heal better, I’ll include Engineer too since the Healing Turret is on fast cooldown with a water blast finisher.
Condition cleansing and group might I would say are things the Guardian brings well.
Engineer can have a pretty good condition cleans with Healing turret and Elixir Gun, but I don’t see them use it that much…so maybe it does not fit into the common builds well.
Other classes are pretty decent at self might stacking, but Guardian with staff can excel in this.
I think a Guardian assists a group by augmenting their ability to keep fighting better through short bursts, but they do not keep a group standing via sustain and healing.
TLDR recap:
Group condition cleanse, group might, and group projectile reflections are the most notable Guardian fortes. Possibly stability as well, but it seem so short in effect. 25% uptime is a good chunk though.

Haha, what about the pros of a Warrior?
I dislike Elementalist because of the squishiness of the class in most cases
( unless I’m playing it wrong ) and can get 1 shot by a Thief’s Backstab combo ( +11k crits )
The Engineer is fun, but requires the engagement to remain more or less in the same spot ( fighting over a point ) , but I kinda suck at that
I find the Guardian modifiers on GS skills insane in comparison to Warrior GS but what about the LB versus the Guardian Scepter? Is it any good? I’m worried about the slow AA travel speed.
I’m mainly looking for a strong class, highly capable of solo roaming, or with small groups ( 2/3 ) with strong CC and noticeable support. I want to be able to do damage and be tanky, kind of like a Brusier in other games.

I play both a lot. I prefer the Guardian as I like the way the skills work, but the Warrior is definitely less frustrating for small group play and has more build options.
Warrior has more ranged potential and mobility. I might go that direction if I was you.
Guardian is more useful in a fight, generally, but the enemy can usually get away from you. You often find yourself out of position or the enemy fanning out to avoid you.
As to scepter you need to treat it like a mele weapon that happens to have a little range. If you try to stay at >600 range it will miss alot. But if you can stay within 600 it is quite good.

Warrior is the class you want. Guardians have little to no range and “kiting” people is virtually non existent. With warrior you have enough peels, range and CC to troll and kite all day. Not only can a warrior have high amounts of health and kite, but they pack a punch with hammer/axe. Their versatility is often sought after in tpvp.
Did I mention they have CC?

Scepter is clunky because people over like 700 away can strafe by moving left and right. Fortunately it hits really hard and has two other skills that are amazing.
The longbow with warriors is so strong that almost every warrior uses it. I dont like it thoough.. I think its boring. Its just attack skills. Scepter can be paired with focus for nice defense or utility. If you want a class that is ranged focus dont do guardian.

What are their cons ? Low team support?
By the looks of things, I think I will be continuing levelling my Warrior.
But a Guardian seems to be very strong because of op scalings. You can go full Knights and do 800 damage on a GS auto as well as being tanky AF.
Guardian has no range… no CC… no mobility… stilll good…. And I just levelled up my toon…. They said it sucks…. No they are wrong…:D
Guardian was my first (and so far only level 80 toon). I love it. Its always in demand for dungeons and WvW groups. Yes the mobility sux (i use Traveller runes in WvW to overcome that) but its still a very fun and rewarding class to play.
Having said that im also slowly levelling my second toon (warrior) now and the raw damage is pretty amazing and the mobility is eye popping. It will take some time to get it to 80 since i dont play my war every day but it will be interesting to compare them both once i do.
“Buff my main class, nerf everything else. "
@ the OP.
If you think elementalist is squishy then you likely have not played it at lvl 80.
If played right at lvl 80 it can be among the most tanky professions in game due to its extremely high protection uptime & massive amounts of healing.
It can also stack enormous amounts of might due to fire fields & blast finishers.
It’s personal DPS falls behind warrior & guardian however & it takes more attention to play the rotations however. But once you master the rotations it is extremely easy to stay alive.
OP if you are looking for strong ranged weapons and good immob/CC then Guardian is not the one. Whilst a great class, those are the two things it is really lacking in
Guardian / WvW Enthusiast
I have yet to see a warrior that can constantly beat a good medi guardian 1v1, especially since the change to renewed focus. The blinds and heals are just to much.
