Guild Wars 2

I recently got the game and plan on maining guardian. After a bit of play I really like the hammer. What weapons best combo with it? I’d prefer a tank/supportive melee role.

Mace/focus is best. It gives the most damage doing hammer mace rotations if you have writ of persistence on which you should. It also gives you 2 blocks and 1 blind. GS is good as well if you need trash pulls from binding blades. If you need no pull then mace. Still your not a tank and shouldn’t try to be one. Use your aegis and blocks instead to tank hits and other utilities to negate damage.

Additionally, in PvP you will want to pair the hammer with a scepter + focus set. Since hammer is not a mobile weapon, the range + immobilize on the scepter will help you sustain your DPS and catch others out.

The focus is just your standard off-hand weapon in PvP currently — the 4 skill gives you easy access to blind and the 5 skill gives you a block which is useful in so many situations (can also add to your burst if the shield does not pop).

Here is a build I use in PvE if I feel like I want to be more ‘Supportive’ however the gear can be a tad expensive and annoying to get as you have to craft Zealot stuff yourself.
