4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
What are the popular Guardian builds?
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
I kinda asked a similar question in the Elementalist’s forums but no one replied… I think they were too busy complaining, but I thought my question was really subjective… so I’ll try to answer as best as I can.
The ones I see most cited around here are:
0/0/30/30/10: Or the 10 from Virtues somewhere else, like Zeal for damage or Radiance if you use Signets. Focus on Altruistic Healing or Monk’s Focus and Empowering Might.
Commenting: This focuses heavily on survivability, although I don’t know why guardians feel the need of using this at the cost of so much damage… it is the “bunker build” but imo there’s better builds that can also outlast while still dealing better damage.
0/15/30/20/5: A variation from above, better damage and you can spam Virtue of Justice every monster, granting 5s Might to your party and benefiting from Altruistic Healing.
Commenting: Good build more suited for farming, though I don’t like it too much because I feel it lacking against bosses or monsters with too much health.
These are the two I see most commented, though I’m going to add a couple of my own:
20/25/0/25/0: Highest damage build that I can think of using Greatswords. Instead of going the regular 30/30/X for glass cannon builds, this one deals better damage and has better survivability as well.
Commenting: A flat 35% extra damage, 40% if you use Sigil of Force (10% is from having less than maximum endurance), with proper gear, it’s one of the best damaging builds since you don’t need much requisites like other professions do, except for the regular dodge here and there.
30/0/10/30/0: My build of general choice for Greatsword/Hammer/Staff that focuses on Symbols. Enhance them with Healing, longer duration, area (a must), and reduced CDs. Excellent for farming.
Commenting: The best build that I can think of. Great raw damage, symbols allow for some versatility and just by changing traits you can choose between a more damage oriented build (Empowering Might), a healing oriented build (Mace + Symbols Heal + Battle Presence for example), or a Spirit Weapon support type (Shield and Bow are excellent for support), or Shout support, while still maintaining a decent damage & support.
I will simply give you my dungeon build:
0/10/30/30/0
Go for Altruistic healing as well as the heals from symbols and increased symbol size, whip out a mace and shield with a hammer and the amount of healing you’ll get from just that is on an insane level.
Enjoy

For dungeons the most popular builds I think that are 0/0/30/30/10 and 0/0/30/20/20.
0/15/30/20/5 is more of a general purpose build.
However the backbone is 0/0/30/20/5 with altruistic healing, it seems that still there is no universal consensus about were to put last 15 points.
I run 4 different builds, they are popular with me. I run PvE mostly, little bit of WvW on the side.
0/10/30/30/0 – Good survivability with shouts and AH, has good damage output also. Gsword as a main and Staff or Scepter. I run a mix of Soldier’s, Zerker’s, Knight’s and Valk’s gear, I’m looking for 3K Atk, 16K HP, 2.8K Armor minimums and the most crit n crit damage possible. Omnom Pie and Maintenance Oil all the time. Apparently 0/5/30/30/5 is more ‘standard’ though.
10/30/20/10/0 – This is my Sword/Torch and Scepter/Focus build. Better damage than any GSword I’ve been able to achieve, lacks full AoE of GSword but can hit multiple targets in front of you, great single target damage where its needed most IMHO. Same gear and food setup however the Pie does a ton of healing here as you’re throwing so many crits quickly, it’s an essential component of this build. Support again with Shouts. *Note, some say Sword and Torch both suck but think that they just don’t know how to use it to it’s full potential. A bit more selfish than other builds as you’re not throwing as many boons out. This is my preferred build.
0/0/30/30/10 – I use this for ‘tanking’ with Mace/Shield and Staff or Hammer. Key here is to get my Protection and Boon duration up to 80%+ with Runes of Monk, Grove and Earth 2x each and food. Between Mace 3, Shield 4, SYS, HtL and Virtue of Courage you can have almost full up time of Protection. Damage output is lower here but if you stack Power it will still be OK.
0/30/20/20/0 – This is my ‘hybrid’ build setup to utalize all weapons to some effect. 2H Mastery for GSword, Staff n Hammer, RHS for the others. Lacks AH but again with Pies and crit you’re sitting fine if you keep hitting stuff. Same gear also. Good versatile build, just adjust some traits for your current situation.

Builds centered around altruistic healing is the most cookie-cutter for guardian builds right now.
10/30/30/0/0 with right hand stength and meditation healing is one of the most popular damage based 1h builds atm, though as blood said, alot of people dont seem to like our 1h options. Also other people will shun you for going as a damage spec on the guardian despite then working fairly well.

My circle of friends and I run 0/15/0/30/25 and variations on that theme, focusing on condition removal and mobility through permanent swiftness (achievable through boon duration runes and at least 20 points in virtues + 10 in honor).
Thanks for these! Ive just started my guardian and am at 38 and I’ve been wondering on some good builds to use.
I like 20/30/0/10/10 for fractals, shout cooldown if you need it, consecrations cd/duration if you need it or unscathed defender, then lots of dps from the 20/30 , scepter/torch/shield/hammer/greatsword, lots of traits to shuffle around depending on map.

I use 0/0/30/20/20, but I mainly play WvW.
