What one-hander should i use?
Scrap the shield and go mace/focus.
What game mode? sPvP, PvE, WvW zerg, WvW roaming?

In PvE I ran a Mace/Shield // Scepter/Focus build for a bit. Definitely not in the current meta but it was pretty good and felt the most like how I’d expect a Guardian class to play coming from other games. Protectors Strike hits hard and increases your ‘DPS’ if you time it just right. I think I was running something like 5/5/4/0/0 or 4/6/4/0/0. It felt pretty durable so Zerker n low HP works fine.

As much as I love mace shield it just isn’t good. The focus is better with the blinds and the blocks by a long shot.

Use whatever you find most fun. You don’t have to use meta builds to enjoy the game. However, if it’s about survivability, the mace tends to lean more towards that with heals on hit, protection, blocks and regen.
