For flavor I think Hammer is the coolest weapon for Guardians, and our Hammer is pretty awesome. But Sword + Focus has definitely become my go-to for pretty much all content. Paired with a Meditations build and Judge’s Intervention, the mobility of Sword is just awesome.

What’s your favorite and why?

I enjoyed greatsword but over time began to lose interest as, at the time, everyone else was using it as well. So I shifted through some weapons and tried the hammer, and really enjoyed it cc and protect symbol. So Hammer is one of my faves as well.
I also really enjoyed the Sword and Torch at low levels but I’ve changed it to scepter and torch , just for survival.

After that I like that staff, but haven’t decide if I want to drop torch for it, since I LOVE the torch so much.

(I’d main hand it if I could. Just the idea of a witchhunter setting flame to my foes after beaming them with a hammer is cool.)

Swords. I actually made a warrior simply because i wanted to play with sword in sPvP without being too squishy. I’ll probably gear it up to roam in wvw as well… meanwhile i’m working on Infinite Light on my guardian, so i can look cool while killing stuff.

And swords skills need a little love fix, to improve the damage or the ability. Butit’s a very good weapon.
I mix it whit focus to obtain a blind effect that grant me what I need to dodge/block/miss 9 or more attacks.

1 handed sword. I really like it a lot but it’s not a feasible weapon in PvP/WvW, sadly.

I got in almost all mine specs a Greatsword, i really like it expecially in a team fight.

GS has some really nice speed in it playstyle and it feels, right and that gives me might. But unfortunate the hammer is so much bether than the GS current design. Yet i still use the GS, for when i use hammer for melee. I feel slow and all i spam is Weapon skill 1 “Totally not auto attack” and once here and there i use skill two for blast finisher.

Sadly, that is the case. Wish GS had more either utility function that i can depend on or more damage. Cleansing condition on nearby ally’s is a nice bonus, sadly we send our cleanser in random direction.

Hammer by far for me. I used to be a GS guy but after playing with hammer and getting used to it, I absolutely love it. Other than that, I use scepter/focus for ranged times and really only use staff when i’m node farming for the speed boost.

Thematically, I grew up on sword and shield and that’s how I operate. I’m super in love with the sword attack chain, and the sword teleport.

Zealot’s Defense is terrible though. It does less DPS than a regular attack chain (this is true, stop calling it burst damage), but you gain a bit of range and defense against ranged attacks, right? Well, that would be great except the ranged attacks are absorbed so you don’t trigger block effects, and you’re immobilized for the duration, so in addition to doing less damage than the regular attack chain you’re also only going to land the entire thing against terrible players or in very specific situations, THEN you’re going to be out of range for follow-up attacks. This ability REALLY needs to be reworked. Best fix was if you weren’t rooted while it was activated.

Shield could also use some love. Little heartbroken that our shield also has no “block” mechanics. My dream come true would be if one of the buttons (preferably the short duration protection wave) was replaced with a button that granted you Aegis (this is a shield, after all). 1 application of Aegis on a 30 second timer or 1 AoE Aegis on a 40 or 45 second timer would be super ideal, would have synergy with plenty of Aegis effects in the Guardian kitten nal, and would all around make me a happy camper. Good golly do I want a weapon source of Aegis.

Ah well, even with sub-par abilities on my sword 3 button and on my shield, I’ll continue to rock them because that’s how I roll. If we can’t have good moves, at least we can look good using bad moves.

I really dig Mace/Shield because it suits the Guardian so well. The chain heals nearby allies on end, the Symbol provides regen, and the shield takes it a step further with a projectile block for everyone with a nice ‘reset’ by bouncing away enemies. Not to mention a radius skill that either blocks+damage or prots+damage; it’s a win-win! This is my dungeon go-to set up because I can contribute to the party without compromising my own life by being in the midst of combat – kinda makes me feel that’s what a Guardian is all about!

When solo’ing I either go Scepter/Torch or Sword/Focus. The off-hand I’ll switch as desired, but really that’s how I keep it.

Line of Warding is one of the most impactful skills in WvW. I’ve gotten 20+ enemies killed with it more times than I can count.

Empower with Altruistic Healing is like having a second heal on your skill bar.

The autoattack tags everything around me very easily for lots of loot.

It’s got the best source of swiftness available to the class for when you have to get somewhere.

What’s not to love?

I also love Hammer. Hits like a truck and gives perma-protection with traited symbols.

My second weapon set is Mace/Focus. I don’t see this pairing mentioned too much and i don’t know why, focus has awesome defensive skills and mace heals a lot, especially when traited (wielding a mace grants you inreased healing up to 250). So when i need to do damage, i switch to hammer, and when i need to survive and heal, i switch to mace/focus. Works pretty well.

Though i’m sad we can’t have a 3rd weapon set to switch, i find myself switching out hammer for staff quite a few times when i want more support, for speed and might

Currently leveling my first guardian. After messing around with all of the different weapon combinations, really like the mace/torch. Mace for attack and health regen, torch for the burns. Also switch to staff from time to time for ranged attacks when needed.

Oh yeah. Enemy thinks he can sortie out and just pop back in? Nope. Slam Line of Warding down right between him and the door to collect badge. Staff is great, it’s the first one I got Ascended. Detonated Orb is also quite nice, and underrated I think.

Hammer makes a great compliment, especially for my AH with Writ of the Merciful/Writ of Exaltation. My hammer has Superior Sigil of Battle, so start the fight with staff, Empower (12 Might), switch (3), take a hit to lose Aegis (1). 16 stacks of Might from myself, plus Protection and healing on auto-attack – I could actually get it as high as 18 if I pop F1 and SY. My only regret is that some of the skills need to be faster (#5 especially).

The auto attack, mm dat deeps
Flashing Blade, A teleport and blind with a decent cool down, such useful!
Zealot’s Defense, while I rarely use it defensively it gives a nice burst

And the fact that I can change it up with an off hand.

HAMMER! Full zerker guardian in pvp…. Hammer hits like a truck. Coupling MB with JI is some fun fun stuff.

My favourite weapon is Swords because it deals decent damage and easy to use.

I have been testing out greatsword lately, it does great burst damage through symbol of wraith and whirling wraith. But for whirling wraith to deal significantly higher damage, u have to stand inside the monster so its quite conditional . I have downed because i was hit by all projectiles from cof p1 final boss while trying to whirling wraith inside of him. Hence i do not like it that much but if i can fight in melee range, i will equip sword/focus and gs

Hammer is good if u need protection like during dredge fractals clown car.. or seal destruction in cliffside fractals

Conclusion i have all weapons except for torch because it doesnt generate much value in PvE.

I’m a big fan of Staff/Mace/Shield. Good heals/buffs, acceptable attack strength. I may have to swap out in a bit here, since I’m working on a heal/burn hybrid spec.
