Where are all the guardians in spvp D:
The decrease in our numbers probably is the fault of the recent patch with necros becoming stronger. All the noobs think they can own anything as long as they use the more “powerful” classes but in the end are humorously destroyed by even a bit more experienced player. There haven’t been many changes to guardians so people kinda forget about them or assume all we ever do is tank and spank.
Blame it on necro buffs
I think too many people think that professions have a set role.
While it’s true that some professions are better at something than the other, that is not always the case, especially not with the Guardian.
Guardian is more than bunker, we do really good damage if traited to it, and we have really good support too. Guardian is really balanced, we can do almost anything, that being damage, support, or bunker.
Yeah, guardian can do everything, which is great. But the reason it goes bunker is because of it’s limited mobility. This is exclusively from spvp pov. An ele, engineer and most other classes can push far point better, so that’s why guardians often just bunker and stay on a point.
Another thing is that all damage skills are really recognizable, people know to avoid what.

In WvW we can spec very offensive due to the huge amounts of healing from AH to keep us alive. In sPvP however, the guardian will always be worse than another class in everything but being a bunker.
So yeah. The only viable sPvP spec is being a bunker.
Why take a guardian if you can take an engineer.

In tpvp guardian is a standard class and in mostly every premade-setup.
In hotjoin the guardian is not picked due to bad mobility, but that doesn’t really reflecting the meta.
Guardian’s offensive builds will always be inferior to bunkers due lack of mobility, poor ranged options and well-telegraphed burst moves. That is not to say the suck, or have absolutely no place in a team, but that other classes can do a better job 90% of the time.

To answer the OP: In TPvP
Like most of the quasi-viable builds out there that get little play the DPS Guardian needs a team to coordinate with and play around them. Bunker stands on its own 2 feet without much need of assists from team mates to serve its purpose at optimum capacity.
It is the same reason that most Mesmers spec Shatter, most Necros spec Conditions, Rangers build for close point defender, etc. All classes have optimal, low maintenance roles that they can fill most easily without needing much team help. That doesn’t mean that they can’t do other things effectively or even better when properly set up. It is just easier and more flexible to run self-sufficient builds than builds that have a high degree of interdependence on the rest of the team comp.
