We were fighting the Slave Driver in CoF when I noticed I was doing 1000+, 2000+ and up to 6000+ damage with my Guardian’s Whirling Wrath. I never done 6000+ damage before (usually it was less than 4k), so I thought I will check the Combat log, but I am surprised to find the whirling wrath was registering less than 1000 damage per hit. How did I see those bigger numbers on the Slave Driver?

Does that mean Combat log do not reflect eventual damage on the mob, but rather my basic damage unmodified by mob’s vulnerability and other external buff (warrior banner) that I might have?

I also noticed this happened only with Whirling Wrath and not my other skill. Any idea why?

I’m not sure about the combat log, but either many might stacks and/or many stacks of vulnerability might have been the cause of the high damage. I’ve hit 7k several times with WW when that happened.

the first thing u need to know about Anet is that they have some of the most inaccurate descriptions and combat logging systems. Anet’s combat log is missing more than half of the damage that you actually give/take. The +6000 that you see is the total damage that whirling wrath it will continually add up the damage with each hit. that is why you saw 1000, 2000, … 6000.

be very careful with the combat log and discriptions because when it comes to this part of the game anet doesnt exactly shine haha

I tend to hit 6000+ when I have a high might stack. If you were running with 2 or more warriors, you most likely had 20+ stacks.

And don’t bother with the combat log. It’s pretty useless.

Those armadillos would be a lot cooler if they looked more like real armadillos. mmm armadillos

When using multi-hit attacks, the damage that you see pop up on your screen is usually the total amount done by the rapid strikes. If you hit 6 times very quickly, it’ll show the total amount of damage done by those 6 hits, not the damage per.

I get the part where the numbers displayed are accumulated each “tick”. What about in combat log? I see 1k, 2k, 3k, 4k … but log says 230, 250, 300+, 350+. I don’t think it is because of the boons or other buff, since the other skills (e.g., attack 1) is showing the damage correctly – both displayed on mob and in log.

So .. probably a bug, I guess?
