Q:
The reason for this question is that its very difficult to get a consensus about dps on different weapons and a different type of presentation would be in order.
Would it be to much to ask for that the tooltips on the different skills displayed actual animation length? As they are designed atm its very difficult to theorycraft different damage setups since no one, of the players, has the actual animation lengths or they havent been published and verified by Arenanet.
Take the guardian hammer for instance, if you add up the animation times for the steps you will have about 2.25 sec animation length on the hammer chain. This isnt the case and when you test this out on dummies in Lions Arch (LA) the animation length seems to be over 3.5.
If you instead displayed, skills per minute or time from animation start to next animation start it would be much easier to theory craft, compare weapons, optimize setups and also help newcomers that has questions.
The second thing, why not place a dummie(s) in the mist that cant die, just like in LA, but with the difference that you can also crit on them. At least guardians has a bunch of stuff that triggers by crits and such a dummy would in fact be great to test stuff at. Ofc it should be possible to crit on the dummies in LA as well.

With a risk of getting a slap on the wrist i will bump this one. Would appriciate if a dev could spend 2 minutes on answering this.
I would like to know the reasoning for this as well. It’s a good question, not sure why this post hasn’t been afforded more attention.
Any devs roaming the forums that can answer this one?
Most of the tooltips are just plain wrong when it comes to cast animations. Even duration tooltips are wrong sometimes too, which is even worse imo. I think its because they just ballpark the numbers basically. Something thats like .65 or .85 secs are all probably listed as 3/4ths, but in actuality that .2 second difference per chain hit adds up fast.
