Why does everyone love Wall of Reflections?
Open world is a joke anyway. So who cares for it?
There is no loyalty without betrayal. -Ann Smiley
Even if enemies did projectiles more in open world, you’d still be better just mowing through them as usual anyways.
Wall is an amazing skill because of how much of a difference it makes in difficult content. Try running Arah or upper level fractals without any projectile reflect to see exactly what the impact is.
It’s only useful in wvw and some dungeons. I hardly ever see NPCs in the open world use missile weapons, and those that do are not that dangerous.
Why do you care what open world mobs use? Just kill them. Wall is extremely useful in fractals and most dungeons. Reflect is op in this game.

Imagine CM, High-tier Dredge Fractal, High-tier Mossman and High-tier Grawl Fractal with no reflections.
Ouch.

Because it’s useful in most (if not all) dungeons and required in others
It works wonders when hunting Karka on Southsun.
I’d imagine for most this is our class defining skill. A skill with a near 40% uptime (traited) that not only protects the entire team from a huge amount of damage, but also reflects it all back is rightly to be feared.
Open World content for the majority is pretty easy. The skill is in fact so fantastic that for the bosses it would be useful for, they’ve changed it so missiles pierce through. Otherwise 3 Guardians could protect entire zergs.
I remember back in the day when we were busting zergs we had two guards running JI+hammer with SYG and WoR. The reflect was like a riot shield dropping it right in front of their ranged or using it to cordon off an area to get stomps or revives. But in sub 5 its not really that great.
In pve its awesome

Mesmer reflects are better though.
If guardian has anything special going for them it’s the hammer auto.

Is this in PvE? Wheras Feedback is very good, it’s still 6 seconds up on a 40sec CD, and I don’t often see people traiting to improve those numbers. Guardian Hammer is pretty nice, but in 90% of my PvE runs I’d rather not have a light field destroying my teams ability to stack might/heals. Different experiences of PvE I guess.

Well, what else are you gonna do with a Guardian? Mesmers also have Temporal Veil and Wardens on top of the Feedback. Guardian reflects are only better in certain fights where projectiles can’t be reflected but can be blocked, like Old Tom in Fractals, but I don’t think they ever even bothered to fix his blind spot so it’s not like you even need to avoid his attacks.

Wait. The light field messes up other people stacking might/heals? How?

It’s all about combo field precedence: FAQ 29
If you are constantly spamming light fields, then people will find it hard to proc might from fire fields, or healing from water fields etc. Since the retaliation you get from blasting a light field is comparatively useless, it annoys alot of people.

Dang it! The more I read about Hammer Guardian, the more I wish I’d made a Warrior.

The light field is annoying, but you use a hammer build where it’s needed, such as in Fractals or disorganized pugs. In these cases, having prot up is more important than making it easy to stack might. When you’re doing normal dungeons that don’t need this prot, use GS/S+F and you’ll still bring the awesome utility of a guardian while also DPSing like a warrior.
Besides, the light field doesn’t prevent might stacking with fire fields entirely, but you do need to be careful with timing your blast finishers to hit the right field, which can be annoying. Just remember that the oldest field down is the one that is triggered by combos.

Open world encounters are mostly irrelevant so WOR doesn’t come into play.
WOR and even SOA are basically required for high lvl fractals and certain exp dungeon paths.
I slot Purging Flames instead of Wall of Reflection unless I need to.
