Why the name Dragonhunter and traps work
Except, well, everyone is hunting Dragons, not just the Guardian. Demon Hunter would work because the Guardian has skills that imply a holy nature, such as Consecration, Ward, Meditation, etc.
Demon Hunter is a stupid name too. FYI
Honestly, this entire thing is just sadly confirming how casual/brain-dead the gw2 community has become. Almost no one is attempting to discuss the changes occurring but everyone is in an uproar over a NAME. I really hope anet doesn’t change it since it literally has no effect on the game and they should not be cowing to nonsense rage like this.

Pretty much this. The OP is just trading one bad name for another.

Because it’s a label you are stuck with. It’s like getting stuck with a terrible name in real life. You can’t shake it unless you legally change it, but we don’t have that option.

Are Demon Hunters the only people who fight demons? The Dragons are the evil that is corrupting Tyria, so holy magic would be just as effective against them as it would be against demons.
No worries, everyone will call it guardbow anyway…

The dragons aren’t evil though, they are forces of nature, and without them the world wouldn’t be able to contain magic. The wiki describes the dragons as “forces of nature and primordial forces from the view of Tyrians, the dragons seem no different … [than] a blizzard or earthquake”.
The demons in Tyria are the servants of Abaddon or Dhuum, not the dragons.
with OPs logic every specialisation would have to be called Dragonhunter because everyone hunts the Dragon…

Tardbow or bluebow are valid options too.

The demons in Tyria are the servants of Abaddon or Dhuum, not the dragons.
And if the expansion was about fighting Abaddon or Dhuum again they would have called it the Demon Hunter and a lot less people would be upset with the name.
While the dragons are a natural part of the world they still are an evil threatening Tyria and guardians magic is used to defend Tyria.

With your logic every class in Diablo 3 would be called the Demon Hunter because everyone hunts demons. Just because one group specializes themselves in dragon hunting doesn’t mean mean everyone else should be called a Dragonhunter because that is what they are fighting at the time.

No, you guys are merely fighting them. Hoping to defend your cities. Dragon hunters are hunting them down and purging them from Tyria with zealous fury and righteous justice. Or something like that.

No, but they might be the only ones with specialized tools to hunt them.

1. Not everyone agrees that they’re evil. Again, they are a force of nature.
2. Everyone’s magic is being used to defend it. That’d be like naming the Elementalist specialization “Magicuser”. It isn’t unique to the class in any way, so why it’s applied to Guardian only is beyond me.
lol kitten, you could have gone with “Vanquisher” and it would have been a better name.

My vote is for “Pew Pew LazerBow”.

Maybe, but who’s to say that would fit the concept better than Dragon Hunter? Certainly no one in this forum.
Its basically styled after a Dragoon, but without the spears or jumping, so of course they had to go with a slightly different name for the slightly different aesthetic. I like it though, both mechanically and thematically.
Let’s imagine that they named the new specialization the Demon Hunter and it used holy magic to create fields that when a monster walked on it said holy magics would be released causing adverse effects to the enemy walking on it, keeping them at bay. Meanwhile the Demon Hunter is firing arrows at the hindered foe, imbued with holy energy that hinder the evil and empower and protect the righteous. That sounds like something a Guardian who was facing demons would want to become. Now replace the word Demon with the current menace facing Tyria, the Dragons, and you get the Dragonhunter. The Dragonhunter is not someone who stalks dragons through the woods like deer as a ranger does. They go looking for the dragons and let the dragons know it, and the days of dragon tyranny are coming to an end.
Actually, by your definition it makes even less sense to have the Guard called a Dragonhunter. One of a dragons greatest strength is the ability to fly….. What are traps going to do versus an airborne enemy?

Go play some Monster Hunter.
@OP
Dragon Hunter and Traps work because
- 1. They wanted us to be hunters, like, actual hunters.
- 2. Hunters have traps.
I imagine we’ll get a damage modifier for Dragons for those pve players
(ew… pve playres….

Yeah, we’re not discussing it because we don’t even now everything yet you brain-dead idiot. Insulting the playerbase without even thinking…
