With HoT Anet had the chance to remove all the bad condition traits that were created post launch. Kindled Zeal(KZ) and Radiant Retaliation(RR) are some of the worst traits currently available to the guardian compared to Amplified Wrath(AW) which is probably the best of the traits they added to guardian in the feature pack. Instead of calling them a mistake and replacing them, anet transformed the radiance line into a decent condition damage based traitline by moving Kindled Zeal down a tier so it can stack with either AW or RR. They also added the made some interesting changes to Radiant Fire, Inner Fire and Radiant Power that work well with both condition and power builds. Does this indicate that the new Specialization or at least the weapon skills will be condition based?

IDK.

It does indicate that they have recognized the problems with burning & at least wan’t the guardian to possibly build decent hybrid builds.

I would wait to see all the changes with how burning is applied before I would say anything final though. They could end up screwing burn guards up if they are not careful.

Chronomancer gets access to Alacrity for speeding up skill recharge…

Guardian elite could get access to an entirely new damaging condition or a new boon that somehow deals damage based on condition damage. That seems more likely than giving us access to things like poison or confusion.

If they’re going that route, they should probably modify burning itself. You’ll have regular burning, and then guardian elite spec !super burning!. Or they could add traits like torment on burn or other nifty things.

If you watch the live stream they showed (inadvertantly) that burning will stack in intensity.

The base damage with no + condition damage was around 131 at lvl 80.

Assuming they take a good look at all the ways the guardian applies burning it could work decently for a pure condi or hybrid build.

But ya I agree, you need more then one damaging condition in order to be effective. Especially if it’s a condition that stacks in intensity.

I suggested a while back (before we heard about trait reworks) that they change one of the currently useless traits so that it would apply torment to enemies the guardian burns if they already had more then X seconds of burning. (kinda like throwing fuel on the fire so to say)

And it makes sense if you think about it. They don’t want the guardian to have ready access to a spammable cripple/slow so torment would work well.

Judging by the leaked longbow skills (which are old), the theme behind the guardian’s specialization seems to be some sort of duality between (power-based) damage and healing.

-snip-

I was more referring to something like a Holy Burning that would be only accessible to Guardian, like Alacrity being specific to Chronomancer. You could apply regular burning, plus holy burning, and have them tie into each other. On top of that, traits for torment on burn, and you’ve got yourself a pretty good setup for pure conditions. Granted, stackable burning and the current iteration of revised traits are already getting fairly close.

I await new info with eager anticipation.
