WvW Dps: PVT/Knights or Cleric/Knights?
If its burst you want may i suggest focus/hammer.
In a burst build you mainly need two things:
1. Power
2. Critical damage
To back that up you need:
1. Enough crit chance for the burst to consistently happen.
2. Multiplicative damage modifiers
Your seconds paragraph actually says that you need a tank and not a “burster”!
Knights/clerics are almost out of the questions if you want burst.
You cant get burst with 1k in healing unless you go for a might stacking build but that gameplay is very complex and more suited for small scale encounters.
You could go for 95% boon duration and use staff to stack might and burst with SyS, MB and judges intervention but it will be very dependant on cool downs.
So we are down to what do you really want?
let me simplify it. i want as much sustain as possible compared to what my cleric guard can do, but more damage. PVT/knights gives very good numbers (3k attack, 2k toughness, 18-20k life, 35+ percent crit), but im afraid it wont have enough sustain. id like some input from people running this. im also afraid of pure knights build not having enough sustain. im talking zerg fights or large skirmishing (10+ players on each side)
im not sure what you mean by hammer/focus, and “tank not a burster”. all guard builds have to be frontline builds, so tank is assumed. im just trying to maximize my damage without giving up too much defensively.
Check the FAQ and the builds there, there are also clips you can watch.
Also check the guide to 30 point in valor, and go to the chapter with endgame gear/builds and check the stat and pictures.
Both are stickied.
Start with 0/0/30/30/10 or 0/5/30/30/5 which are both nice for wvw frontlining. I play hammer staff all the time with this setup.
If you want to tank i suggest PVT armor, berserker rings and amulet and pvt accesories.
Rune of melandru and condiduration food.
Soldier weapons for more vitality and toughness.
Energy sigils.
In wvw as a frontliner you need healthpool to handle conditions not toughness primarily.
EDIT: You cant go wrong with pvt/knights in wvw. Just go for it and you will never get the same sustain as a full cleric. If you gain damage you loose sustain in this case.

great thanks man. good call on 0/5/30/30/5, that’s a nice touch. PVT + zerker gives much better stats than pvt + knights with ruby jewels

You can always mix a bit. I find 20k health pretty necessary at times. Others not so much. So a spare couple pieces of Beserkers doesn’t go astray.
My whole set is a mismatch and I have no idea why… guess I am a tinkerer
Knights Helm, PVT shoulders legs hands feet, Beserker Chest
Emerald neck ring earring, Beryl ring earring
Beserker weapons
I also have a spare pvt chest and beserker pants
I have a set of soldier and a set of speed (hope they fix this as im not moving faster)
I might build up some Melandru armor and see how that goes
Generally with food 3k power, armor, 50 crit and crit damage, ~20k health
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)

Hoelbrok Runes, not Melandru.

You have it backwards
Chest should be PVT and shoulders, hands, and feet should be zerker, with that you lost no stats at all while gaining 1% extra crit damage
Optimization
i’ll definitely be aiming for 20k HP, so i’ll likely go full PVT armor
hey guys could i get a bit of feedback on this? i went for well-rounded stats and a more offensive build. with food:
1950 power
49% crit
81% crit damage
1568 toughness (+150 with trait)
16.2k life
combo of valk, knights and zerker stats. if i wanna be tankier, i would swap valk gear with PVT + soldier runes. Retreat is there for extra for extra AHEM heals, but i could swap it out for save yourselves.

First thing I see:
Why would you take a Bealfire Rune as 6th over a ruby orb?
Switching out 5 power for 14 precision (brings you to 50%) and 2% more crit dmg
lol yea my bad, i wasnt thinking. i just threw on a random power rune. anything else i could improve? im kinda of torn between valk + ranger runes, and PVT + soldier, which would give a lot of survivability. the only thing that would suffer would be my crit damage.

You expect to be a front line diver with that? I’m not trying to be offensive, I have no idea what server you play on so I have no idea what your wvw community is like. If you dive into a zerg with that I would say you could survive about 4 seconds, maybe 6 if you get lucky.
The reality is diving into a zerg is a freaking art form. Charging 50 guys hell bent on killing you, and then walking away from it isn’t easy (unless you are a warrior/necro).
I’m curious why you suddenly want to switch to doing damage though. If you are tanking fine, just keep going with what you have.

My Stats are roughly as follows:
Power: 2800
Precision: 1900
Toughness: 1600
Crit damage: 105%
Crit rate: 58%
HP: 13800
and I bounce in and out of zergs with no problem at all so going for more damage is fine cause it’s nice to be able to hit someone for a substantial amount instead of feeling like you’re a mosquito in heavy armour.

I improved my build a lot using some cavalier trinks.
1930 power, 99% crit dmg, 1670 + 150 toughness, 40% crit with food and 16.2k hp. I would feel safe zerg diving with this but id also have a pvt set with melandru.
@tans
Howd u get your power so high? That must be with 30 in zeal?
10 In zeal + 25 stacks of bloodlust + Might nutrition + Sharpening stone + Bane Signet are the main reasons for my insanely high power. I use this for roaming and when in a zerg I switch the signet for either Signet of Judgement or Contemplation of purity.
I won’t lie it is a tough build to play being a zerker it’s easy to die if you mess up but it suits my play style just fine. Something about jumping into a zerg and hitting 5 people for 12K makes me feel like I’m doing a good job haha

What server are you on? I understand that any of the league 2 servers you can do whatever you want on. You could probably roll in there naked. It’s pretty much PvE on those.

Just use pvt armor, zerk/knights trinkets, soldier runes and a x/x/30/30/x build
I wouldnt get nearer than staff range to an enemy zerg without at least 20k hp, 3k armor and protection
You can get pvt armor for karma

knights with zerker trinkets, 0-5-30-30-5 is totally viable

i dont agree with this. you dont need that much HP and armor if youre running AH EM or cleric’s. im looking for something that can bring on the pain =)

viable definitely. but the problems (for me) with this combination are 1) not enough toughness, 2) not enough HP (16k is min i would say), 3) power and crit damage are quite average.
so far the combo that’s giving me the best stats for what i wanna do (AH EM tank, and burst) is my valk/cavalier/knights build. and i can always swap out valk with ranger runes to PVT with melandru or soldier runes.
if someone can give me 1.9k+ power, 1800+ toughness and 80-100% crit damage WITH more vit or crit chance, im open suggestions =)

Probably. I bought the exotics piece by piece when the game started and gear was not in any of the builders yet.

For wvw I like to run 0-10-30-30-0 staff/gs armor: PVT/sentinel + celestial jewlery +pvt backpack., knight weapons. Sigil of generosity on staff, bloodlust in gt ; sigil of energy after 25stacks. Around 21k hp with wvw buff, 3k atk with 25 stacks, 3.1k armor , around 60% crit dmg, 30% crit chance. 45% boon duration.
(edited by xDudisx.5914)
Sigil of Generosity is really underestimated by most people. It IS expensive. However if there is anything I’m willing to shell out that much gold on it would be that one sigil. It’s done so much work when fighting other people. I’ve even switched to using nothing but that in the few times I do PvE. With 50% crit chance, and the low icd of it, you won’t have conditions on you long. The only downside is that it’s not available in spvp. With the sword AA though it’s almost guaranteed that if you have a condition it will get transferred as soon as the icd is up.

thanks for the suggestion, but that hits like a wet noodle.
sigil of generosity sounds cool, but having extra 2 dodge rolls on swap easily mitigates as much if not more damage

You should have constant vigor up all the time anyway. I guess it doesn’t matter, it sounds like most of these are for very low level play in wvw. Pretty much anything goes there because everyone has already transferred up. So just go with whatever is fun. Just don’t expect to make videos, or awesome screens like us (that’s a bit of a joke btw).
