@Chris
Just turned 80 on my guardian and decked it in clerics. I see you use soldier rings, but what would you say to do the ascended multistat gear? Switch amulet and rings with all stats? Wouldnt it pretty much balance it out + giving you alot more crit etc?

It’d give you a whole lot of stuff you don’t need (condition damage, magic find). The small amount of precision and crit damage also means nothing when your crit chance is already so low compared to having more of stats you can actually use like Power, Tough, and Vit.

I view divine items (all-stats) as…well, a waste of time. At least for this build.

Well, if you can play the AH build, then you play this one. I’ve used the AH build and found the Hammer to be too slow. I don’t want to say this one is easier but you don’t have to do the whole animation dancing that you do when using the AH build.

I still pack a hammer just because I’m a mean person and enjoy punting people off strange places out in WvWvW using Banish But honestly, it comes in handy farming too. Greatsword and Hammer mows down Risen…

Well I have been using AH for a while now. I did buy some clerics gear just basic rare gear didnt go too far into it but I notice as guardian we turn into big hit me signs. I take a lot more damage it seems using this build.

I actually carry a hammer to switch to after 25 stacks of BL with my Sword/Focus if I’m running with a group (need those blast finishers and CC for group combat). For solo play I still run Sword/Focus because, well….it’s just better for me. Getting immobilized is catastrophic and the defensive utility provided by the sword is too valuable.

Although I don’t know what you mean by animation dancing…I’ve heard there’s a way to shorten the animation of the third hammer strike, but I’m clueless.

Rares have lower Defense, and I guess if you’re used to AH you’re used to having an extra 200 Toughness as well. This build’s less about taking bigger hits and more about triage.

Do u think “Bowl of Orrian Truffle and Meat Stew” works good with this build?
(7 sec Might for every dodge and + 40 % Edurance refill regen)

I guess it might. I tried it for a bit and didn’t like it as much as the extra Vit and passive regen from Magno Pie (which scales with +healing WvW bonuses, by the way).

Just warn you to use this build at your own risk. Just got reported by 5 Gunnar’s Hold players because i’m dodging too often for their liking and they took > 5 mins to kill me :P

Seems like they never heard of Sigil of Energy on both sets + perma-Vigor ^^

Apok! I see you’re joining us on the Healway bandwagon we can us ea few more lil Chris’s running around.

I’ve been running around with this build properly, full cleric’s for a month and a half now – it’s utterly brilliant, genius really I never have trouble in 1vs1 Cept permastealthers, confusion mesmers rarely, and the odd well played D/D ele. I’m still using the stats Chris had in his first Healway vid, so I’m missing a lot from then to the present – slight alterations being exotic magi back and accessories, couldn’t find the appropriate Cleric’s. I have yet to set sight on, let alone own anything ascended, have never completed a Fractal, and it will be a long time coming methinks Since I started out I’ve had a spectacular experience and grabbed Commander on this character, it’s very good for leading and the heals help the group a lot, also Heavy at the front is kind of basics, although I swap out a few skills and traits for better group play my new favourite character + main = that.

Thanks for the amazing build Chris, and for getting ‘Sail’ on my background playlist, great song – people are regularly asking me for build, saying I play well etc. all thanks to you – you are truly my role model and one of the leading pioneers of this class, keep it up good Ser.

Hey guys! I’ve been using this build for a while now and feel really strong with it. Although I am able to face tanking a group of invaders, I feel like I am still not using this build to it’s fullest potential. I find that I am mostly using my greatsword and not switching over to my sword/focus enough.

So my question is, what is the typical thought process when going into a fight? Why and when do I swap out of greatsword? From my experience, the greatsword does much more DPS than the sword. So is there a reason to swap if I don’t need the extra endurance and blocks?

Also, what are your thoughts about shield vs focus. I’ve been running around with a shield and find that I’m liking it more as I rarely have to use my focus moves. A combo that I’ve been doing is shield 5 to knock my enemy back, and then sword 2 to blink at them while they’re on the ground. Works pretty well.

Sword 1 actually out dps the GS on a single target iirc. You just have to land all 3 hits of the last chain. Sword 3 is dps loss and should only be used in certain situations. 2 is invaluable when trying to keep up with the enemy. I use sword for pressure (when i know all 3 can hit), and then use gs for burst and cc.

Focus is superior to shield in solo play by far. 5 blocks can be game changing, and the sword 2 blind and focus 4 blind can really help in a pinch.

Curious never tested this before or exactly know how stats fully work. I know precision increases Crit Chance by a certain amount. Is it possible to crit with a healing ability? If so would adding precision into this build help any with not only dmg but heals also?

Andytheffboy.7403, you asked:

“Also, what are your thoughts about shield vs focus. I’ve been running around with a shield and find that I’m liking it more as I rarely have to use my focus moves. A combo that I’ve been doing is shield 5 to knock my enemy back, and then sword 2 to blink at them while they’re on the ground. Works pretty well.”

I’ve found with this build that all weapons work but they are situational. Meaning my primary solo or duo is sword/focus/greatsword. This pretty much is my go-to combo.

Shield I found works well in larger groups. When I swap to this weapon I also use scepter and staff. I call this my pusher setup. I’m really only supporting in this setup and really can’t kill Jack outside the “white” NPC animals Point being is that staff gives solid movement and gets you from point A to point B. Shield, as you pointed out, pushes people over some pretty incredible places I can’t say how many times people have been punted off cliffs, off bridges, walls, etc. It is amazing.

Focus is really superior as noted above but shield has its uses. So does staff, etc. The more you run with the build or comfort level with the class I think it does well. In the hands of people who really know what to do when, it is Epic. I’m not that person but I can hold my own regardless if it is 1, 2, or 3 v. 1.

@Andy – mentioned somewhere in the earlier pages, i play this build using a hammer + mace/shield. so very different from Chris’ or many other Healway guards concept of originating and approaching this build. but it works for me. obviously, i’m set up more as a group roamer and definitely not as mobile. thus, using knockdowns/backs/immo/RoW to ensure i can stay on my targets. so control over mobility if you will in this case for argument’s sake. i personally love the shield offhand myself and it works for me.

though i will agree, solo roaming, focus is very strong and especially if you’re playing up the blinds (since again in my build, i don’t have any while with focus sword and GS you have 3 blinds at your disposal.. i get little extra sources of protection instead to mitigate).

and yes, hammer + shield. cliffs are my friends. with two sources of stability, helps a lot with this build ; ))
