WvW stat distribution
There’s few things should help you about stats allocation.
- Your precision – 916 (base that doesn’t count and just gives 4% crit) / 21 = 1% crit chance, rounded up.
- Crit Damage is worth roughly 14 points of attributes on armor, so the best places to get these are gems (they’re worth 42 points instead of 15!) and earrings first.
In what does this helps?
For example, if you’re planning on spending 20 points in Radiance for + 200 Precision, you’ll have 200 / 21 = 9.52 (your crit chance) + 4% (base) = 13.52%.
Rounded up, this means 14% crit chance, but let’s say you have a backpack with a Berserker Gem (+15 Precision). This makes your precision 215 / 21 = 14.23 + 4 = 14.24%, still 14%. So you just wasted 15 points that could’ve been toughness or vitality.
And if you want Crit Damage, where would you get your points from? The armor, where each 1% crit damage equals to 14 points, or the gems, where each point equals to 5 attribute points?
It would be a total waste to gem Knights having a Valkyrie Armor for example.
As for amounts… it’s up to you, really.
You will see that you can’t have everything so you’ll have to decide what you’ll give up for each attribute you get.

That’s great stuff. I was not aware that GW rounded the nearest decimal point wasting the remainders.
You should also decide if you want to be more fragile but dish out more damage, or if you want to play something that does a little less but is much tougher to kill.
Toughness is definitely my goal, especially since I lag behind so much and I think it’s a better entry level approach for WvW. I could just do a soldier’s everything but then I don’t want people ignoring my attacks on them either. Hence the topic of the thread.
Don’t underestimate Soldier’s items since Power is the best DPS stat in game.
The only thing you will lack is real burst, since that requires you to crit.
Imo you can’t go wrong with a Soldier’s main set. Accessories can then always be mixed and matched according to your preference.
Knight’s equipment provides the best balance of tankyness and damage.
