I’ve done this on another forum as a fun break from our serious Guardian discussions! So here we go! Name your top 3 Guardian Skills in this format:
1. Flashing Blade
2. Mighty Blow
3. Whirling Wrath
Then you can write a brief explanation why if you want!! Just keep the format above so that I can easily tally up the points. Number 1 is worth 3 points, 2 : 2points, 3: 1point.
Hall of Fame
1. “Stand Your Ground” – 25 points
2. Judges Intervention – 22 points
3. “Save Yourselves!” – 15 points
4. Smite Conditions – 10 points
5. Wall of Reflection – 9 points
I’ll Start off!
1. “Stand Your Ground!”
2. Banish
3. Empower
Explanations!
1. The Guardian’s best utility skill, ran on 95% of builds purely because of its usefulness. Anti-control, burst, has retaliation, break-stun an amazing skill. Definitely worthy of top spot!
2. Banish is crazy, the blowback is crazy big, the most important skill to counter when playing against a Guardian, can change the direction of the entire match!
3. Empower has always been an extremely strong ability, if you co-ordinate it with your allies +420 condi/power is crazy good, you’ll have your entire team with a significantly larger damage output, a lot of teams base their team play around this build.

Here’s mine then. Note this are the ones I find the most “fun”, not necessarily the ones I think have best utility. For some reason the all seem to be about doing damage
1. Judge’s Intervention
2. Shield of Wrath
3. Ring of Warding
1. No other skill is as versatile – Stun breaker ( that also cancels a knockdown ), Teleport ( avoiding fall damage, ambushing and escaping ), 0 cast time ( for skill chaining, surprise bursts ). 3 seconds of AoE burn ( activates Fiery Wrath ).
2. Shield of Wrath – 3 blocks is always useful in PvP and PvE, but the shield’s true beauty comes when you think of it as our highest damage skill. No other skill leaves an unsuspecting enemy going WTF?! – the icing on the cake is that it’s a blast finisher
3. Ring of Warding – keeping an enemy close is difficult for a guardian, so control skills are like gold dust – while it has its flaws, it’s still one of the best tools we have to make sure our initial burst lands successfully. It’s always fun to see inexperienced players constantly being knocked down by it too. ( or Basnished against it ).
It’s also worth noting my choices all have good synergy with each another.
1. Save yourselves !!
2. Hold the line !!
(combo)
3. Leap of Faith
The first two are actually a combo. I can’t help but chuckle everytime I use them in succesion.
SAVE YOURSELVES!! HOLD THE LINE!!! … wait, what?
And leap of faith, well … I just like it. The name, the animation on my midget, the comboing, … it’s a wild ride.
1. Stand your ground
2. Hallowed Ground
3. Banish
1. Best utility we have, i works on offense and in defense and it has a short cd and offers the best boon in the game.
2. Se 1. Add to this that when used coordinated its one hell of a selfheal as well and ofc 3 stacks of aoe might. Whats not to like.
3. Besides being extremely entertaining (best animation in the game) its also very versitile and can be a game changer. You can kill people with it, you can use it in offense and defense, you can save a team mate by interupting a stomp and ofc use it to position an enemy where you want them . The only reason why people dont like it is that it can be difficult to land but its a great skill.

I’m going to just put up the top 5 tallied ^^
1. Stand your ground
2. Save yourselves
3. Binding Blade
1 – stability, stunbreak, low cooldown. Traited = awesome.
2 – Every buff in the game. Coupled with my buff duration and again shout cooldown reduction, just phenomenal. Also a stunbreak
3. Great CC ability on GS. Ability to interrupt foes (unless +stability) 5 targets and does damage over time. 24 sec CD traited.. wowza.
Beofre patch 26
1. Shelter.s 2sec block was so good, when your oooo kitten am dead you pushed your heal and had 2sec to try to get to a better spot.
2. Save yourselves
3. Stand your ground
2 and 3 is simple with skill i used most, if Save yourselves is better am not sure but i have it at 7 so i use it more
1. Stand your ground
2. Smite condition
3. Symbol of Faith
1. Best skill in the game.
2. Underrated. Removes condition and does a lot of AoE damage. Traited it does this every 16 seconds and heals for 2K. Sign me up.
3. Heals, Damage, Combo Field (condition remover), short cooldown.
1. Ring of Warding
- “It’s rap**** time!” or "You are all mine, for five whole seconds "
2. Judge Intervention
- Combo with Ring of Warding: “Surprise surprise!!”
- Combo with Banish: like Judge Dredd would say " I am…THE LAW!!"
3. Smite Condition
- “ROAR! ASOMAL SMASH LITTLE MAN!”
(edited by Asomal.6453)
1) Judge’s Intervention
2) Smite Condition
3) Shield of Wrath
1) stunbreak, 1200 range teleport, burning, healing when traited nice little combo.
2) Removes condition, nice aoe damage, low cooldown and heals when traited.
3) Nice damage relief in smaller fights.
1) Judge’s Intervention
1. Judge’s Intervention
2. Zealot’s Embrace (combined with the Binding Jeopardy trait it gives a few free stacks of vulnerability)
3. Tie between Ring of Warding and Purging Flames
1 – As mentioned above, the insta stun break, teleport, and burning is awesome. Also I run a meditation build so having a free 2k heal on top of all that is stupendous.
2 – I love this move for several reasons. It has great synergy with JI (winding up the move then porting on top of a small group of enemies so they can’t roll away from it), with the binding jeopardy trait it makes your targets that much weaker, plus it allows a guarenteed landing of the hammer #2 leap, placing a ring of warding while they’re snared so they can’t go anywhere while it’s casting, and/or banish some poor fool off a ledge (VERY satisfying btw).
3. Ring of Warding is just a wonderful skill. Makes for a wonderful barrier in terms of preventing escape / advances of a zerg (pop it by a gate entrance if the gate breaks and giggle as people bump into it constantly), and with a blast finisher having area retaliation helps with burning down bursty classes as they’ll be hurting themselves. However, Purging Flames is quite possibly the funnest way of making people panic and burn dodge rolls / escapes prematurely as it not only looks kitten, but with the right spec build it does crazy damage by the time it’s done channeling. Also I placed a sigil on my torch that gives a chance of removing boons on my targets so it not only clears conditions on allies in the flames, but gives a good chance to strip boons from my enemies.
1) Stand Your Ground
2) Judge’s Intervention
3) Ring of Warding
Number 3 was a close tie between Ring of Warding and Mighty Blow.
1) Wall of Reflection!!!! Why hasn’t anyone else said this one yet?! :O
2) Shelter
3) Shield of Absorption
1) It’s our best ranged damage skill! Punishes enemy stupidity and it’s the longest lasting light field.
2) A decent enough heal but the channeled block is just so good. Great trait synergy with Might of the Protector and Defender’s Flame. Invinci-heal.
3) A lot of people don’t like it but this skill really is amazing, it lasts a fair amount longer than the visual effect does, great AoE knockback and a decent enough emergency heal. I even use it to absorb projectiles! :O
Updated! I forgot to say no heal/elite skills but I think it’s too late now XDDD
Wall of Reflect, Shield of the Avenger (People, this is why your wanted in PvE) And either Signet of Judgement or Stand Your Ground. Meh.
1.) Orb of Wrath
….
….
….
1. Stand Your Ground
2. Save Yourselves
3. Hold the Line
Honourable mentions to smite condition (useful until I got shouts to remove conditions) and wall of reflection.
1. Save Yourselves!
2. Leap of Faith
3. Smite Condition
1. All those buffs in one skill plus it’s a stun breaker! Add in boon duration and Superior Aria and it’s just golden.
2. It’s a gap closer whether for your target or for movement and doesn’t require a target to use. It also has decent damage. On top of that, it adds a blind and is a combo finisher. Just use #4 beside it and you’ve got instant retal.
3. Cures conditions and damages along with it. If you have Monk’s from the Valor trait line, it burst heals too.
1. Mighty Blow!
2. Save Yourselves: traited and geared is 33% uptime for many boons.
3. Signet of Judgement: the passive is something like +300 toughness.
Other skills are imho more useful than these 3 (SYG, WoR…) but also more situational.
All you Save Yourselves fans give necros a woody everytime they see you
1. Purging Flames
2. Zealot’s Flame
3. Whirling Wrath
What can I say..I love blue flames! <3
wrathful strike, whirling wrath, leap of faith.
Protector’s Stike, Chains of Light, Stand Your Ground.
All you Save Yourselves fans give necros a woody everytime they see you
It’ll be that way for the Boon Hate system as well. Here’s a hint though: trick them into wasting their skills that stip boons/damages boon’ers, and then pop SY!
1. Wall of Reflection – negates projectile damage and returns it o.O
2. Shield of the Avenger – long duration projectile damage negation
3. Symbol of Protection – ‘Face Tank Stuff’ for the team… Let your warrior finish that 100b channel w/o face planting.
Honorable Mention
*Stand Your Ground
*Retreat
*Save Yourselves
(edited by Bloodgruve.6038)
1. Judges intervention
2. Binding Blades
3. Smite Condition
Judges Intervention: Will most likely never leave my bar, huge, instant cast gap closer, AoE fire blast with 3 seconds of burning, stun remover, and the capability to combo with any skill. (namely Ring of Warding, Zealots Defense, and Whirling Wrath) make it an over the top utility
Binding Blade: Great CC ability with a ton of added extra damage. Mine crits for over 2k per initial blade hit, plus the added damage over time. Also if there is an enemy within range stacked directly behind a closer target, you can actually hit the same target with multiple blades. Also the skill sets up for multiple combos into WW, weapon switch to Ring of warding, and also weapon switching to a Zealots defense.
Smite condition: Low CD, (20 seconds reg, 16 traited) Condition removal. Does great damage (2k plus crits with damage builds) and is also AoE, and can be traited to heal. It literally has everything you could want from a skill.
1. Judge’s Intervention
2. Smite Condition
3. Save Yourselves
I run a meditation build, and healing for 2100 hp when I use either meditation is godly, just for that reason. In addition to this, a teleport stunbreaker that burns and sets up ambushes, well yes sir! Smite Condition, instant cast (traited as I have) 16sec 2100 heal that cleanses a condition AND does 2-3k dmg, I’ll take it!
Lastly Save Yourselves, I took this instead of SyG, simply because I love having both offensive and defensive boons in a fight. When using SyG I didn’t feel I had much usage out of it while in a fight, always used it to stomp, and while this is great, I simply love having multiple buffs to help me stay alive a lot longer. In combination with meditations, this works wonders!
1) Stand your ground
Stability AND retaliation for a good CD. Very good skill especially given that it also provides them for allies.
2) Mighty Blow
I’m a bit biased since I play hammer but I love this skill : high damage, slight leap and spammable blast finisher
3) Smite conditions
Pretty low CD to remove a condition AND to deal high amount of damage. Both offensive and defensive skill.
Before this thread bleeds to death, here are mine (from a pve point of view):
1) Whirling Wrath
Great AoE damage with a short channeling time. Nuff said.
2) Line of Warding
Kinda surprised nobody submitted this one yet. It’s a bit easier to go around then Ring of Warding, but can be used on the move and it’s ground-targeted. Oh, and it’s just so kitten good to fully channel Empower while hordes of Risen flail against your blue wall in vain.
3) Wall of Reflection
Pretty much never leaves my bar. Makes ranged mobs destroy themselves while you destroy the melee ones. Seems like a great division of labor, doesn’t it?
