asikmeditrapper build
After running a similar build, I’d say for a meditations build smiter’s boon is much more valuable than focus mastery (even if you are using a focus). Considering medi-trapper’s low armor, one of the most important methods of sustain we have is burst-healing.
Smiters boon gives you that, damage, fury, and condi cleanse on 30s cooldown. All of these factors combined gives you a lot more utility and sustain than 8s of protection from focus skills. Also, keep in mind that focus #5 will already block 3 attacks for you which partially reduces the utility of that 4s of protection, and focus #4 blinds opponents which also partially reduces that utility.
I understand these things. You also get protection from TOF and the passive proc. Like you said, Meditrapper has low armor and people are changing to paladins amulet. I have found that this is better for me because you keep the higher damage while also getting better survivability. 33% reduced physical damage is no joke atm and i have not been having any problems with condition classes. Try the build and post your thoughts plz.
The thing is that I, for one, have always thought that the “Focus Mastery” trait doesn’t really synergize very well with the focus skills: “Ray of Judgement” blinds and “Shield of Wrath” blocks. So they both seem to have been designed with the guardian’s possibility to avoid being hit in mind. Even if you still soak up a hit or two in that 4 sec span, it’s not much of a difference imo. It’s all theory ofc, but still…
The protection duration is longer due to earth runes, you also get Protection from the earth runes and TOF. When you use your focus abilities, TOF and one use of shield of courage, it works out to be 24and a half secs or so of protection, then the added 4 secs from the earth rune proc, 28.75 secs of protection. My thinking is this, Smiter’s boon gives 2 condi removal, fury, a bit of damage and a 2 k heal in 24 or 30 secs. If i take 9k damage in 10 secs to make it easy, that is a reduction of 3k damage which already out preforms the heal from smiter’s boon. 20 secs is 3x better as in u reduce physical damage by 6k assuming you recieved 18k physical damage. i often take more then 18k damage in that amount of time. Since i am not having problems against condi atm, this is working wonders. Anyway, if someone would try it and get back to me that would be awesome.

Yeah, it’s good that it works well for you, but I believe it would work just as good, or even better, without the afore mention “Focus Mastery” trait. I wonder why would you need to even prolong the duration of prot boon from – as you say – 24 to 28.75 sec. I mean I don’t think it’s really that relevant in the current meta, esp when it can get corrupted all the same whether it’s 5 or 25 sec stack. Well, if protection would also reduce the incoming condi damage, that would make much more sense to me; but, anyway, that’s my lame theory crafting, hope you know better.
Its all good Miles, you clearly don’t get what i am saying. I am not prolonging from 24 to 28 secs for a start, i have stated i have no problems with condition atm. So if i have 0 problems with condition then i have a small issue with burst, this change fixes that issue. Please don’t comment further unless u try it. You talk about the current meta like there is one, it is still settling. TRY THE BUILD PLEASE (anyone), i think you will be surprised.
No offense, but I see the same attitude from you that I’ve seen thousands of times in various game forums over the years.
You put something together that you think is great and when people ask questions on choice (not even being critical) you snap back like someone would have the nerve to qustion your choices and then wrap it up with "don’t comment until you try it "
If you’re looking for someone to come in, pat you on the head and say you did a great job making a build then I wouldn’t hold your breath, considering you’re borderline begging people to run it.
My bad. I was being a stooge. Thanks for the input guys
Sup guys, thought i would add this to make things easy. http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vVAQNAT8dn8cClDhVdCWDB8Dhl6BTe+l/CgXBgUQMILEdiSRA-TZBFABCcBAa7gAAwTAQ8yAns/AA
Here’s the thing about your build from my own experiences.
DH has a high block uptime thanks to 2x F3 (if using Renewed Focus elite). This additional block upkeep is taking up the majority of your Protection upkeep; you wont be using your Prot duration very efficiently throughout a fight. The sustains gained from 33% Prot, in this case, is not more efficient than Pack Runes 20% Fury + Crit + Power damages and a DH absolutely needs these to burst efficiently in a team fight.
Rune of Earth doesn’t increase DH performance in 1v1 nor team fights & you don’t even need extra sustains holding a point because we already have plenty of that.
Earth runes would be more effective on Core Guardian because you’ll be using F3 Prot activation on Core Guard for 100% of its duration. That’s more efficient than DH, but… core Guard will always perform worse than DH :/ I just wanted to use that as an example.
It’s hard theory crafting something small like a Rune or Sigil because the performance difference (in this case, on DH meta build) is often ineligible. You think you found a better build until you realize your performance is either the same, or it’s just a hair weaker than your last build variation.

I use scrapper or leadership rune. Both work well with paladin amulet.
I did come up with a DH like this as nice variant which is tougher.
My daughter currently plays it with dragons maw + scraper rune instead of feel my wrath + leadership rune.

They sound like fun builds and the leadership runes are nice. I will have to give it a go
Hunters fortification is arguable, but its good to have a condi remover more. Did think of using soring devastation but the daze (interrupt) on test of faith which is instant cast on a low CD is realy good. Also the 1200 port over CoP plays well here with hammer. Your elite is an condi conversion 600 on 45 sec so a nice add.
The build has more dodging involved and ledership synergizes well especially with feel my wrath + sigil of rage in hammer. Team boonshare is also there.
So its a bit tougher then a classic medi trapper and can do serious hammer stuff.
Using dragons maw + scrapper rune moves more into medi trapper direction.
