I have been playing, well trying to play pvp on my guardian and the last 5 times I sat down to do so held down alt F4 because I was so angry with how things were turning out. guardian needs to be improved in a lot of areas to match up with all the rangers and thieves and necromancers that have an easy time killing the guardian in a matter of seconds It literally took a thief one hit to kill me made no sense and this has happened a bunch of times the necromancers and rangers that have an easy time killing guardian use lots of condition control and summoning. what I was starting to think was that pvp wont be fun if its unfair for certain classes

In an attempt to be constructive: Look up guardian bunker builds and the associated rage at how overpowered they are. Long story short, guardians are fine.

What’s your build?

They’re pretty much in demand in both sPvP and WvW groups.

Maybe you’re not built right? Different builds excel (or fail to excel) at different things.

are you new to the Guardian? least to sPvP it seems.. to me, it was a different game comapred to WvW and PvE. BIG difference. so you do have to adapt to PvP play. i’ve run a bunch of different builds.. starting with bunker, then going semi-hybrid, and now mainly DPS. and i want to say they’re all extremely effective and play a part in sPvP or even tPvP, depending on team make up.

secondly though, and i dare argue it’s almost as important as knowing your own class, is knowing the other classes. know which attacks to dodge, know what killed you last time, dodge it next time.. again, i feel this can never be said enough, don’t stand in red circles; be constatntly aware of your surroundings, don’t get tunnel vision.

i had a ton of problems against rangers, mesmers when i first started playing PvP. now? not so afraid of them. just keep trying! : )) and know that every day, every game you play, there’s a chance to have bad runs.. so don’t let those get you down.

it’s definitely not the class that’s at a disadvantage. definitely not the Guardian in PvP.

Guard is my main in PvE but haven’t even taken him to PvP yet. For that I run Mes and Thief. Now, a couple days ago I did a hot join and came up against a guardian that just destroyed me. I’m not even GC and he just shredded me to pieces. I can’t wait to get in and try it. He was Sword/Torch and GSword.

I was struggling in PvP until recently. You need to pick your battles, don’t just rush multiple players without backup. Tunnel vision, as mention before, is dangerous. And knowing your opponents class, even a little bit, helps a ton.

Think about what they did to just dominate you, and fix it. I dont’ run sPvP, but I have no problems at all with my Guardian in WvW. I’m not running a bunker build, but I am more of a tanky guard. One of the things I’d watch out for with necros is that skill they have which switches all your boons for conditions. This skill alone caused me to switch out “Save Yourselves!” As soon as a necro sees you pop that skill, they’ll cover you in conditions and then spread that to all your party members.
The best thing you can do is to keep playing. I got killed a lot in WvW when I first started, but the more I played, the more I learned my class and what skills and weapons to use.

It takes some time to get in the groove of spvp. You’ll play against some pretty solid players out there. If you need suggestions or help with your build for sPvP then you’re in the right forum and just need to ask for assistance.

A couple things I’ve found. Try during the day instead of the evening. Seems later evenings is when more of the monster PvP’rs come out to play. Also, if you get in a tough room try a different one. Two or Three decent players that run together can seriously destroy a whole unorganized team. And again, stick with a group until you’re comfortable with your build.

so in light of the above, op you probably shouldn’t listen to guardians who win against upscaled players or win 2v1 with a ranged behind them thinking it’s 1v1. anet developers don’t appear to account for some factors that are detrimental to guardians.

Guardians suck in pvp? I must admit I have sometimes rage quitted after losing to a well played engineer or mesmer but as mentioned above, guardians are ridiculous in group play. We can hit EVERYTHING with our melee attacks and buff allies while healing from buffing them. You can build your guardian for solo-play as well but be prepared to lose at some point because some other classes are just better at 1v1.

Feel free to try it but remember, guardians are 30% build and 70% skill. You need to learn how to time your blocks and make sure you will never end in a situation where all your defensive/healing skills are on CL because that is when you die horribly.

Also do remember that even if you try that build, I built it for MYSELF. Some people might prefer going soldier runes to avoid putting 20 in virtues and some may want to use monks focus for more stun breakers and offensive solo play. I’d still recommend you to play more and tell how you feel once you reach rank 30 or so.

Guardian has so many viable builds it is ridiculous. I don’t know what you are talking about.

The only reason you don’t see them being used more frequently is because teams need bunker for their ridiculous ability to stay on point and withstand damage until help arrives.
