The cool down on these things seem outrageous. I just started playing my guardian again after enjoying some time with my thief. Gotta say Daggerstorm makes me wonder about the elite skills. Not having stability with the tome’s is a huge mistake imo

Arenanet have stated that they will be bringing ALL of the underpowered skills up to the same as the best ones: Time Warp is unquestionably the best elite skill. I can’t wait until guardian has four Time Warp quality skills to choose between.

Nobody at Anet loves WvW like Grouch loved PvP. That’s what we need, a WvW Grouch, but taller.

I’d be happier if the cooldowns were just shorter. Stability for tome of wrath would be nice. If they did it with courage it would make it to OP.

I personally think our elites are great. Tome of Wrath is a solid party damage boost that if use optimally can be almost as powerful as Time Warp, while Tome of Courage gives us great party support. I agree both have incredibly high cooldowns, but they at least fall under what an Elite skill is (a game changer). As for Renewed Focus, I have a hard time removing this from my bar because it is so helpful and on a quick cooldown. It gives 3 seconds of invulnerability while moving, and resets all Virtues, meaning it gains more power the more traits you have affecting Virtues. I also use Runes of Lyssa to make it even more game breakingly powerful.

Actually, I believe both Tomes had stability during Beta, but that was removed because it ended up being OP.

Should it be reintroduced? The dynamic of games changes over time, and it may no longer be overpowered in comparison to where other classes are at, or how those classes are played.

Can’t tell you whether the answer to that question is yes or no though.

You could use Runes of Lyssa which would give you stability when using the tomes. Long enough to get off the essential skills.

We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional

Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the runes only activate after you finish the elite.

Both Tomes used to grant stability for the entire duration (unless it was stripped), but people complained heavily about Tome of Courage for tPvP and so both were nerfed.

The argument was that being able to swap to Tome of Courage and guarantee a full heal (because of stability) was overpowered.

I haven’t personally seen the full heal pulled off effectively in such a long time now :/

Yeah, it was originally made with the intention of Stability allowing it, so now its underpowered. I guess its easier to notice overpowered skills than it is to notice underpowered ones.

They are the worst elite skills in the game renewed focus is most useful to bad you cannot swap them with a utility skill.

Well i love our elite skills (except renewed focus). When the enemy is pounding your gates stand next to it and use your elite skill to put everyone down and doing 3k dmg.
The healing is also nice i use the #1 allot when i jump into an enemy zerg :P Nothings more fun then seeing 10 people hitting you when you just walk away

I love our elite skills too. They’re ok. Since you’re able to move with renewed focus, you can support your group/other players very well. Also the tomes are nice. I don’t get all the people, who call out for “overpowering elite skill” – it’s a bit pathetic, imho. Read, learn and play the skills you have. If you want stability for the 5th tome skill, then use hallowed ground. I’d say that these three elite skills are enough powerful for the guardian, who already is a powerful friend/enemy, hrhr

1.) The Tomes are very niche and have very long cooldowns relative to how effective they really are. Yes they are good in their niche, but outside of that they are lacking meaning most people use Renewed Focus which, while effective, feels more like a utility skill than an elite.

Its nothing really “gamechanging” like Tornado or Time Warp, or even Battle Standard.

2.) Your suggestion for having to use Hallowed Ground (80s cooldown, lasts 1/2 duration of a Tome, and forces you to stay in a small ring) is just silly.

Tomes are good, but i really dont understand why the skill from 6 to 9 are locked when the tome is up. This lock is what makes tomes, bad elites.

Renewed focus is very good, but its just an improved version of the warrior shield stance, with an higher cooldown.
It dont feel very elite right now, but its definitely our best elite.

Because, like Guild Wars before it, GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs.
It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill"

Stand your ground is a staple in most guardian builds, and I use it right before a crucial tome moment for the stability. While it doesn’t last the full 20 seconds, you can at least still fire off the important skills.

I’m not sure if I’d want the cooldown to be any shorter on the tomes. If anything, maybe the duration should be longer or the skills need to be a bit more powerful. Tomes, like several other abilities, lock you out of your basic abilities, and that’s not something that I would want to be spammable. If it has a long cooldown time, its effects should be worth the wait (i.e. time warp’s 10s quickness).

I was thinking 120-150s rather than 180.
