Guild Wars 2

I’d like to be using this class effectively, namely as a defensive behemoth, mostly for pve.
I switched from necro to this, though it seems my necro was able to stay alive longer due to minions and absorbing life. I was hoping I could use this class better to be able to really take a beating. And I think its just that I dont know how to use it that well.
For instance, for necro, Id have staff, cast all my symbols on the ground, switch to scepter/focus, use the skill that did more damage for every condition inflicted, range attack while minions took the brute of the attack.

But I have to such strategy here. Im level 16. Havent spent any trait points yet because I dont know where to put them. Im using a greatsword, and no secondary. Im just swinging wildly and meeting fair success. Hopefully I can learn some more strategy. Like I said, Id like to be a very defensive character. maybe not doing massive damage, but being able to absorb alot while I kill them

Have you tried the mace yet? The symbol it can drop is quite useful sometimes as well as its number 3 block

First, when making my account, I didnt really think much about the username, and it is REALLY weird seeing someone call me by my first name on the INTERWEBSSSSSS. haha

second, thanks much. Ive heard alot of people are big fans of the mace shield combo. I havent felt the need to rely on its symbol, since Im using “save yourself” as any buff that I would need. maybe thats the wrong idea though

My main character so far is a guardian. Even at lvl 80 im still learning a few things here or there. My preferred combo is Full Valkyrie armor, Sword & Shield and Greatsword, which isnt half bad for AoE with almost all skill slots and tanking if you use your virtues then keep a few signets up as well as “Stand your ground” “Hold the Line” and so on. When tanking the mace is the best weapon to use because skills 2 and 3 provide a healing/damaging symbol as well as a block and retaliate skill. Staves/wands can be used as you please. This class seems to be GW2’s primary tanking class because of all of the support but still leaves room for some open interpretation of what works best.
