Hello Guardian players.

i have a question for you. In the following areas of gameplay:

*Direct Damage-
*Condition Damage-
*Support-
*Defense-
*Control-

On a scale from 1-10, ten being best,
how would you grade Longbow for each of these areas?

note: this is just for the Longbow of the DragonHunter and not the full class as a whole.

Direct Damage: 4/10 Worse than Scepter for single target
Condition Damage: 2/10 Still bad, I’d rather run scepter torch
Support: 3/10 Not even close to staff or hammer
Defense: 1/10 People can strafe left-right and your shots get’s obstructed, and you have no melee defense, no CC unlike ranger
Control: 3/10 Spam 1, occasionally use 2 and 5 and that’s it…

*Direct Damage- 6/10. #2 packs a mean punch, but nothing else does.
*Condition Damage- 2/10. It has a very small amount of burning.
*Support- 1/10. The vigor it offers isn’t significant.
*Defense- 1/10. I’m not going to pretend that #3 is useful.
*Control- 6/10. #5 is a pretty strong control skill, if one somehow manages to land it against competent players.

6/10, got some good DPS. Its no ranger but its got different abilities and condi capability
4/10, just the symbol and built in virtue but specced right can land 3-4 stacks
6/10, people underestimate vigor. Dodging is meta at this point.
4/10 defence cause you can kite and have anti range abilities
9/10 for control. Built in knock back with trait and the 5 skill can knock a guy around better than a hammer can. Combine that with the range and it might be one of the best control weapons. Warrior hammer is probably better since 8-10s cool down on a stun.

2/10. Just Strife left and right!
2/10 Doesn’t give anything that can’t be done better without elite addon
0/10 Base spec does it better
0/10 Kiting isn’t great when you’re sluggish. Investing in zerk burst for valuable ranged play = less defense.
2/10 other classes can do it much better especially with traps.

Gosh I look negative. Let’s hope next beta weekend improves things! <3

Only because of Trueshot and LB#5’s final damage. Like to see it upgraded to 7/10
If it wasn’t for the 1200 range, it would be a 1/10. In 1v1, it’s definitely 1/10

Condition Damage
2/10
Bow has 1/5 the condi pressure compared to gs/torch/scepter.

Support
1/10
It’s not a support weapon. Don’t pick it if your intentions is to keep a zerker warrior alive. If your role is a more control built, then sure.

Defense
1/10
What defense?

Control
7/10
Only support is in the form of LB#5. I would say it’s on par with hammer #5. It’s the only thing on the bow that makes the weapon worth taking.

The youtube vid about the strafe is a bigger proof of their most apparent screwup, yet they don’t even spare a word about it. Have you seen Rev and War forums? their derv are practically on the call to address issue. Here this guy (you know how HE is) silently skim through the forum with that smirk skipping all criticism and only respond to cute ones like “we need better sound effect”.
So, I give an F- on any category, except “irresponsibility”, that’s an A+.

7/10 We will see how the proposed changes pan out.

Condition Damage
4/10 AoE Cripple and Burn are useful, Cripple on skill 1 we will see if it changes.

Support
7/10 In the right group setting it has both offensive and defensive support

Defense
2/10 A skillshot Blind

Control
5/10 There’s potential, but the channeled skills leave you very vulnerable while applying the control with 5, so it’s a double-edged sword. If Shield of Courage was changed to block melee attacks also then we would have better defensive options while channeling and vulnerable.

Times like this I wish the reaper didn’t require so much work. I’m probably going to check the guardian’s tooltip damage, attack rates, and animation times for these skills on the next beta. Then, I’ll be able to give you more of an answer.

Hmmm. I think you left out an area… Range. As in higher than all other weapons we have, considering how bad scepter is. I’m also told True shot is our single most damaging hit and it’s going to hit even harder soon. So now we’re talking range and spike (and stability every time your use it).

  • Direct Damage- 8. They’re upping the projectiles speed of #1 and the damage of #2. It’s gonna let us hit folks we’ve never had a shot at before.
  • Condition Damage- 5. Its not really a condi weapon other than #4 (which is also being buffed) and the occasional burn from VoJustice.
  • Support- 3. Symbol of energy giving vigor does not get me exited. But the front-liner it lands on might like it.
  • Defense- 3. The missile canceling shot is interesting on paper, but it needs a lot of work to be usable by more than coincidence. Perma-Stability on #2 won’t suck though.
  • Control- 6. People will scatter when you drop the ward (area denial is still control). And those that don’t are gonna get shredded while they’re penned in. Cooldown is far too long and we need a 20% cooldown trait above and beyond that. Have to see where things go.

I kinda look forward to matching up against all the folks who looked at the early beta version of this weapon and expect it to be a pushover/never followed up on the changes on the Live servers. There will be some sweet, sweet tears.

so far from the 1st beta my own opinion in pvp/wvw

*Direct Damage-1/10
2 skill keeps you rooted for 1 sec,more than enough time for heavy dps to take you down due to low hp pool,could have 3 times more dmg still keeps you rooted
1 skill scepter is way better
5 skill activates at the end of the cast ,any enemy with a brain can walk out,doesnt even have to roll,just walk out of the area
*Condition Damage- 1/10 exept burning we dont have any other strong condition the lack of dps on bow makes is easy to clean the burning
*Support-1/10 no support like any other good weapons guard has
*Defense-1/10 dont even have to comment on this
*Control-1//10 the 5 skill easy to avoid ,to easy

could be a great weapon if they work on it with a little more interest until the release of HoT
